Ruckus in Assembly over JKCA scam continues

Jammu, Mar 13 (VOS): State Assembly Tuesday witnessed uproarious scenes on second consecutive day as opposition Peoples Democratic Party members continued their demand of CBI probe in alleged multi-crore scam in Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association.

As soon the House assembled here this morning, the PDP members led by their president Mehbooba Mufti raised the issue of alleged financial bungling in the JKCA.

They demanded lodging of an FIR against JKCA President and Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and a statement from the government.

Ruling National Conference members objected to the name of their party chief in the scam.

The PDP MLA’s countered by trooping to the speaker's podium, shouting slogans against the NC and demanding a CBI probe into the “embezzlement” of funds.

They also contended that “such bungling can’t happen without the connivance of Dr Farooq and (JKCA chairman) Mohammad Aslam Goni.”

The angry PDP MLAs later walked out of the House. Talking to reporters, Mehbooba alleged that the government does not want to discuss the corruption in the house. “They do not want to discuss the murder of Haji Yousf Ali (NC worker),” she alleged.

The PDP president demanded in-depth inquiry in the entire episode as huge money meant for “the development of sports and cricket in J&K has been galloped by corrupt functionaries of the Association”.

“Rs 50 crore is not a small amount and those responsible should be booked under law,” she said.
It is pertinent to mention that Chief Administrative Officer of the Association Saleem Khan was terminated while another former General Secretary Ehsan Mirza resigned on his own from the Association after the detection of the fraud in which some fake accounts were created and money diverted.
