CPMG releases Postage Stamp on 100 years of Civil Aviation

Srinagar, March 15, 2012

Hundred years ago, an aircraft flew from Allahabad to Naini carrying
6500 mails. This marked not only the birth of Commercial Civil
Aviation in India but also the first Airmail Service in the world. To
mark the 100 years of Civil Aviation, Department of Posts has brought
out a commemorative stamp today. The stamp along with the special
cover was released in a special function at Jammu Airport today by
Shri John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General, Jammu and Kashmir.

During the function, Chief Postmaster General said that Civil Aviation
in India has been the success story of last 100 years. He added that
Civil Aviation started in India when the French pilot Monseigneur
Piguet undertook the first commercial flight covering a distance of
about 10 kilometres from Allahabad to Naini on Feb 18, 1911 for
carrying mail.

John Samuel further added that the first domestic air route between
Karachi and Delhi was opened in Dec 1912 by the Indian State Air
Services in collaboration with the U.K based Imperial Airways. The
Aviation industry gathered momentum in 1932 when J.R.D Tata founded
Tata Airlines which later became Air India.

Shri John Samuel added that Philately has been closely associated with
Civil Aviation, since the introduction of airmail and aero philately.
Aero philately has become one of the favourite areas of philatelist.
He announced that a special stamp exhibition on airmail and Civil
Aviation will be held in Srinagar in April, 2012. The exhibition will
display stamps on Aircrafts and Airmail across the world. Chief
Postmaster General said that the new stamps on Civil Aviation will be
available for the public at Gandhi Nagar philately bureau.

Shri M.Suresh, Director Jammu Airport was the guest of Honour on the
occasion. Officers from all Airlines, CRPF, Police posted at the
Airport were present. Sh. Amit Sharma, Director Postal Services J&K,
Shri Sanjay Misri Manager Air India and Sh. M.Suresh Director Airport
Authority Jammu and Sh. Rattan Lal Senior Superintendent post offices
Jammu also spoke on the occasion.

Modern Post office  at Jammu Airport

To provide state of Art facilities to the passengers using Jammu
Airport and members of Airport Authority of India and security force
personnel deployed at Jammu Airport. Department of Posts has
established a fully computerised and modernized post office at Jammu
Airport, and this was dedicated by Shri John Samuel Chief Postmaster
General J&K to the public today.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri John Samuel stated that the post office
will provide Speed post services to the people. Speed post was
introduced by the Department of Posts in 1986 and it provides fast and
time bound delivery of letters and parcels across the nation and the
world.

Shri John Samuel stated that all departmental post offices numbering
260 have been taken up for computerization during the present
financial year. Very soon all the post offices in J&K will provide
Speed post services. In Jammu, Speedpost provides same day delivery
services for consignments booked before 1pm. Further customers are
given free home collection of Speed post articles. [PIB]

NCC ORGANISES ANNUAL TRAINING CAMP AND VOLUNTARILY BLOOD DONATION CAMP

Srinagar, March 15, 2012

       1 J&K Bn NCC organized its Annual Training Camp at Haft Chinar,
Srinagar from March 6 to 15, 2012. Cadets from all over Kashmir right
from Tangdhar to Verinag participated in the camp.

       According to a press release, the Camp was inaugurated by Col.
Pradeep Singh on March 6, 2012. In addition to the practical training,
drill, weapon handling including firing, battle craft, leadership,
management and physical training, the cadet also got an opportunity to
visit the Air Force Station, Awantipora where they witnessed the Air
Defence  Mechanism of our country’s Air Force. A documentary was also
screened showing how the Indian Air Force has grown from its nascent
stage in 1932 to the level of force to reckon with today. A large
number of cadets felt motivated to joint the Indian Air Force. Such
activities make the cadets adaptable to any environment.

       On the concluding day, to show their social responsibility to locals
of Kashmir, large number of cadets donated blood at the voluntary
Blood Donation Camp organized in consultation with Principal Govt
Medical College, Srinagar. Dr. Sadiq Ahmad and Dr. Arshad who extended
