Says army unleashing terror on roads
Srinagar, Mar 11 (VOS): Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Sunday criticized army for what he said ‘unleashing terror on Jammu and Kashmir roads.’
In a statement to VOS Geelani while condemning the killing of a boy who was overrun by an army vehicle in Islamabad on Friday said, “They (army) don’t want to see anybody driving on the roads when they drive.”
He blamed army for ignoring the traffic laws and resorting to over speed and said that despite big claims government has failed to provide the better roads and has not bothered to widen them so that traffic accidents could be avoided.
“Major chunk of the state budget goes waste on the overdue expenses of ministers and legislative members and less amount of the budget is being allotted for development,” Geelani claimed
“The amount spent for the widening and up gradation of roads goes into the pockets of corrupt officers,” he alleged.
The Hurriyat Chairman castigated army for not adhering to the traffic rules and said that the graph of road accidents involving army was rising.
He said that the public anger over the killing of a youth Yasir Ayob Wani was understandable, adding that he himself wanted to go to Anantnag for condolences “but the government barred me from doing so.”
While regretting over the increase of traffic accident, Geelani said that Srinagar-Jammu and Jammu-Kashtawar roads were proving lethal.
“The condition of the roads is the same as it was in 1947. There has been a cent percent increase in the transport but no attention is being paid on widening of the roads,” he added.
Meanwhile, Geelani expressed concern over the prevailing situation in Rajouri. “Agents like Tagodiya were fueling communal hatred in the region,” he added.
