JKCA scam: PDP demands CBI probe

Srinagar, Mar 12 (VOS): The State Legislative Assembly Monday witnessed noisy scenes over the multi-crore scam in Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) with opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) demanding CBI probe in the matter.

As soon the House assembled this morning, the PDP members demanded discussion on JKCA scam. The party had already moved adjournment motion demanding normal business of the House for Monday be suspended to discuss the issue of urgent public importance such as financial bungling and misappropriation and misuse in JKCA headed by Dr Farooq Abdullah.

However, Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone dismissed the motion saying that the House can’t discuss JKCA issue as it is an autonomous body. “There is no scope to discuss the matter here,” the speaker said.

The PDP members raising slogans like “Gali Gali Mein Shor Hein, Makhloot Sarkar Chor Hein, Srinagar Stadium Mein Shor Hein, Ye Sarkar Chor Hein, Jammu Kashmir Mein Hein Nahi, Dili Mein Be Shor Hein, Ye Sarkar Chor Hein, Farooq-Kalmadi Bhai Bhai” protested against the Speakers decision.

NC MLAs Nazir Guerzi, Peer Afaq and others counter attacked and leveled allegations against the PDP leaders.

Amid sloganeering and counter sloganeering the PDP members led by Mehbooba Mufti walked out of the House. They later sat on darhna outside the House.

Mehbooba alleged that the present government has broken all the records of corruption in the state. “When case can be registered against Suresh Kalmadi in Commonwealth Games scam why can’t be case registered against Farooq Abdullah?” Mehbooba asked.

The PDP president demanded a CBI probe and said it was now “an acknowledged fact that the scam has taken place.”

“It is evident from the fact that JKCA Chairman Mohammad Aslam Goni has filed an FIR in Srinagar against the JKCA officials who had opened bogus accounts. Small-time officials were being made scapegoat but the main culprits who authorized the officials to open the accounts in the bank and allowed them to divert the money were being saved,” she alleged.
