UNESCO-IUGS Series of Lectures concludes at KU
Srinagar, Mar 9 (VOS):  UNESCO- IUGS series of lectures on Isotope Geology and Crustal Evolution under the auspices of IGCP-SIDA 599, organized by the Department of Geology and Geophysics, University of Kashmir concluded here today.
The week long lecture series and interactive sessions by the eminent Finnish scientists from the University of Helsinki was part of the University’s ongoing initiatives to network with the international agencies to promote research and academics at the University of Kashmir.
Dr. Matti Kurhila, Dept. of Geology, Helsinki University and Dr. Jaana Halla, Professor and Coordinator of the Finnish Museum for Natural History delivered a series of Lectures to the participants comprising of students and research scholars of the Geology Department.
Vice-Chancellor, KU, Prof. Talat Ahmad, Head of the Department, Prof Shakil A Romshoo and other faculty members of also participated in the series and interactive sessions with the participants.
Prof Talat, while interacting with the participants, said that, during this summer a larger group of 37 Earth Scientists from Finland are visiting the University and shall be conducting joint field studies with the faculty and Research Scholars of the Geology Department in the Kashmir, Kargil and Ladakh regions.
The VC announced a few fellowships in field of Petrology to the bright participants out of the JC Bose Fellowship that has been conferred upon Prof. Talat Ahmad by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India for his contribution in the field of Earth Sciences.
