Adequate quantity of seeds for kharief season available in Valley
SRINAGAR, MARCH 13: With a view to ensure distribution of quality seeds to the farming community at doorsteps in coming Kharief season, Agriculture department, Dr. Farooq A. lone convened a meeting of officers of Agriculture department.
            The meeting was informed that there were sufficient stocks of different Cereal Crop Seeds/Vegetable Seeds to meet requirement of farmers of Valley. During ensuing Kharief season, 9,000 quintals of paddy, 2000 quintals of maize and 15 quintals of open pollinated vegetable seeds, 10 quintals of hybrid vegetable seeds and 8000 quintal of Potato Seed Tubers have been made available throughout Valley in Sale outlets of the department.
In order to promote hybrid Vegetable cultivation in all parts of Valley, Polyfilms with Hybrid Vegetable Seed Kits have been distributed among 2164 Panchayat Raj Institutes and 621 Municipal Wards for raising Seedlings for sale & distribution among the villagers.
            The Director impressed upon the officers to create awareness among the farmers to popularize high yielding varieties of cereals & vegetables for high return and making the Valley self sufficient in food. Meanwhile the farmers have been advised to contact concern Chief Agriculture Officer in case of any shortage of any Seed in any part of Valley.
