29th Sher-i-Kashmir Shiekh Mohammad Abdullah & Madr-i-Mehrban Football Tournament concludes 
Al-Hilal Sports club lifts trophy
SRINAGAR, JULY 23: The 29th Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and Madr-i-Mehrban Football Tournament concluded at Polo ground today in which Al-Hilal sports club and Safdar Football club participated. Al-Hilal sports club won the match by penalty stroke while Safdar football club was declared runners up.
Minister for Information Technology, Animal Husbandry and Sheep Husbandry Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The event was organized by the Kashmir Sports Srinagar.
In all 20 teams of the Valley took part in the tournament in which Safdar football club and Al-Hilal football club reached to final match.
Addressing the function, Aga Syed Ruhullah said that the Government is committed to provide all possible support to sportspersons and every step is being taken to popularize the sports activities in length and breadth of the State. He said that Kashmir Sports is a front ranking organization devoted to promotion of sports since many decades and the management deserves appreciation at all levels.
Congratulating the organizers as well as participants of the tournament, the Minister said that both the teams showed their highest caliber during their final match played today in historic Polo ground of Srinagar city.
He hoped that similar matches will be played at other district headquarters of the State for creating enthusiasm among budding youth.
Referring to various demands raised on the occasion, Aga Syed Ruhullah assured the management that their issues will be taken up with Sports Ministry and other concerned department for redressal.  
The organizing Secretary of Kashmir Sports, Mr. Ghulam Rasool Bahar on the occasion said that the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is the patron  of Kashmir Sports while as Advisor to Chief Minister Mr. Mubarak Gul is the Chairman of Kashmir Sports. He said that the event was sponsored by J&K Bank. Mr. Bahar expressed his gratitude to the Minister for sparing his precious time to bless the occasion by his presence. He hoped that Kashmir Sports will have the fullest support of the Government in future events also as the organization is doing its best to encourage youngsters to participate in world famous football game.

Ruhullah expresses grief over the demise of Director IT, Kashmir University
SRINAGAR, JULY 23: The Minister for Information Technology, Animal Husbandry and Sheep Husbandry Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi expressed his deep shock and anguish over  the death of Director Information Technology, University of Kashmir Dr. Mehraj-u-Din Dar.
He described that the Director was one of the best research scholar who always worked for imbibing scientific temperament among the students and also remained engaged in encouraging the students in the research activities.
The Minister prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.

Tributes paid to Sogami on his 31th death anniversary
SOGAM (KUPWARA), JULY 23 –Scores of people paid flowering tributes to towering leader of district Kupwara and former Minister late Ghulam Nabi Wani (Sogami) on his 31th death anniversary at his ancestral graveyard here this morning.
Minister of State for Home, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani who is also grandson of late Sogami, Minister of state for R&B, Mr Javiad Ahmad Dar, prominent leaders of the district and hundreds of people were present on the occasion.
            Earlier, Duaya Majlis was conducted in local Jamia Masjid whose construction was started by late leader in 1955. Hundreds of people from various areas of the district participated in the Majlis.
            Later, a public meeting was held in which the contributions of late leader were highlighted which includes to provide water harvesting concept to then government for providing irrigation facilities to the kandi belts of the state particularly district Kupwara.  He also highlighted the tourism potential   of the Lolab valley and other parts of the district.
            Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nasir said to bring Lolab valley on the tourism map of the state was dream of late leader and it was realized with the establishment of Lolab-Bungs-Dringyari Development Authority (LBDDA). He said Kupwara has huge tourism potential and the establishment of LBDDA will tap potential tapped in a better way to bring it at world class tourism destination. He said the authority has already started the work and hoped that within couple of years adequate tourism infrastructure would be developed across the district.

                SRINAGAR, JULY 23: According to Public Relations Officer to Airport Director, Mr. O.P. Buwaniwala Airport Director-SIA has been transferred and posted to AAI CHQ, New Delhi and Mr. V.K. Jain has taken over charge as Airport Director, Srinagar International Airport.

Power shut down on July 25
            SRINAGAR, JULY 23: According to Power Controller, Power Development Department, Kashmir Province, Bemina, Srinagar, power supply to the areas fed from 33 KV Switchyard at Grid Station Habak shall remain affected on the July 25, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in order to connect capacitor banks with 33 KV System in Grid Station Habak.
            During the period of shut down about 40 MWs of power shall remain off.

Div Com reviews restoration work of Peer Dastgir Sahib (RA) Shrine
            SRINAGAR, JULY 23: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon convened a high level meeting of officers here today and reviewed the status of re-construction of Shrine of Peer Dastgir Sahib (RA) Khanyar.
            In the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner was informed that the construction work for the Shrine would be started soon and tenders for this purpose has been invited by the Waqf Board.
            The Divisional Commissioner gave instructions that the recommendation of fire safety audit report should be incorporated in the overall development plan of the Shrine as well as overall urban development of the area.
            It was reiterated that the original architecture of the Shrine should be maintained. He also directed the Chief Engineer PDD to work out the plan for lying of underground cables in the area and integrated it with the overall plan of the Shrine.
            The Divisional Commissioner directed the concerned authorities to start the construction work and completed within stipulated time and the Shrine restored to its pristine glory.
            The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Baseer Ahmed Khan, Vice Chairman, J&K Muslim Wakf Board Prof M.Y. Qadri, Chief Engineer R&B Mushtaq Ahmed, Chief Engineer EM&RE Kashmir Mohammed Muzaffar Mattoo, Dy. Verification of pensioners extended by one month: DG, A&T
            SRINAGAR, JULY 23- Director General, Accounts and Treasuries Finance department, Mr. Wali Mohammad Batt today said that in view of the request of various pensioners, the period of verification has been further extended up to August 31, 2012.
            Consequently, the pension to the pensioners for the month of August, 2012 payable in September, 2012 shall not be paid without the prescribed verification certificate.
            It is once again reiterated that the Treasury officers have already been instructed to exempt such pensioners from personal appearances who are unable to appear in person due to illness, old age and other valid reasons. The Treasury officers shall depute a member of the treasury staff for their respective residences for verification of such pensioners. Similarly procedure for verification of the pensioners residing abroad, as laid down in the rules, shall be strictly followed for convenience of these senior citizens.   

MD JKHPMC bags nine prestigious awards for outstanding contribution
SRINAGAR, JULY 23: Managing Director, J&K Horticulture Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation (JKHPMC), Syed Rafiq Ahmad Furrahi, who is instrumental in reviving the sick PSU is the recipient of nine prestigious national awards. The awards have been conferred to Mr. Syed for his outstanding performance in achieving the targets and showing exceptional skill in handling the affairs of Sick Corporation and contributing for economic growth of the Jammu and Kashmir.
The awards which have already been received by Mr. Syed during the year 2012 include, Rashtriya Gaurav Award and Certificate of Excellence, Glory of India Gold Medal Award, Glory of India Award and Certificate of Excellence (Bangkok Thailand), Best Citizens of India Award and Mother Teressa Excellence Award (Hyderabad).
Mr. Syed has been selected for four more awards, which will be presented to him in the months of August and September at Delhi and Kathmandu. These are Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani Award, Rashtriya Vikas Rattan Award, Rashtriya Udyog Rattan Award and Gold Star Asia International Award. These awards will be presented by the organizations like International Friendship Society, New Delhi, International Institute of Success Awareness, New Delhi, and Integrated Council for Socio-Economic Progress Kerala India, Best Citizens of India International Publishing House, New Delhi, Citizens Integration Peace Society, New Delhi, Economic Growth Society of India, New Delhi and Indian Organization for Business Research and Development New Delhi.
During the brief tenure of Mr. Syed as Managing Director, JKHPMC from June, 2011 (till date), the Corporation has witnessed highest turnover and surpassed the fixed targets during the year 2011-12. The total turnover during 2011-12 was Rs. 903.27 lakh as against Rs. 651.07 lakh and registered net earnings of Rs. 104.98 lakh. The indicators of business activities of the Corporation show substantial growth during his tenure.

21 BDOs placed as DPOs
            SRINAGAR, JULY 23 – The Government today placed 21 Block Development Officers (BDOs) as Incharge District Panchayat Officers (DPOs) in their own pay and grade.
            According to the order, the arrangement will not confer any preferential claim on them for regular promotion at the time of filling of posts/induction in the KAS on regular basis.
            The officers placed as DPOs are Gul Hasasn Kirpak, Sunil Sharma, Mohammad Abass, Zahoor Ahmed Magray, Imtiyaz Ahmed Sheikh, Syed Sajad Qadri, Ghulam Rasool War, Sumera Shamim, Arvind Karvani, Shabir-ul-Hassan, Ms Neelam Khajuria, Ali Mohammad Roi, Fayaz Ahmed Fayaz, Ghulam Qadir Wani, Vivek Puri, Jalal-ud-Din Ganai, Rohit Sharma, Mir Munwar, Narayan Dutt, Shams-u-Din and Hitesh Gupta.

Mirwaiz asks people to self-introspect
Sees pattern in fire incidents at religious places
Srinagar, July 23 (VOS): Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) and Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has asked people to revisit their own faults and self introspect during the auspicious month of Ramadan.
“We cannot blame government for our own faults. If we indulge into dishonesty, lying, hoarding, black marketing etc., we are to blame ourselves only”, said Mirwaiz while speaking to VOS. He appealed people to take corrective action, “which is the main aim of the holy month of Ramadan”.
While condemning the incidents of fire and desecration at various religious places across the valley, Mirwaiz said these incidents were part of a definite design and conspiracy to disturb religious harmony in the valley. He condemned the reported attempt of desecration of a mosque at Beeru in Budgam district, calling it a handiwork of miscreants to disturb religious and sectarian harmony in the state.
He reiterated his appeal to people of the valley to remain vigilant against divisive forces and ensure safety of shrines and other religious places.(VOS)
