Principal GMC, Sgr refutes news item
SRINAGAR, JULY 08 :-    Refuting to a news item captioned “SMHS Hospital sans Hemophilia drugs – Authorities promise Action As patients take to streets in protest”  which appeared in a section of press, the Principal, Government Medical College, Srinagar termed it as a concocted, frivolous and baseless story.
The Principal stated as reported by the Medical Superintendent, SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, the deceased Haemophilic patient namely Mr. Zahoor Ahmad Mir has never been brought to SMHS Hospital for treatment before his death except in the month of June when he was given Factor-VIII.  The patient was reportedly taken directly to SKIMS, Soura, Srinagar.   Had he been brought to SMHS Hospital Srinagar he would have been given Factor-VIII or its alternative FFP.  He said that the Government has created a separate Haemophilic Centre at SMHS Hospital where patients with blood related disorders are regularly being treated and provided necessary medication.
Pertinent to mention here that presently one patient suffering from Haemophilic disease  is admitted in the hospital in Ward No:12 at Bed No:18 namely  Mr. Uzair R/o Harwan, who is being provided requisite treatment including Factor-VIII and  he has been given sixteen vials of Factor-VIII from yesterday.
The Government last month provided funds to the tune of Rs. 1.20 crore for the procurement of Factor-VIII and other related drugs, adding that after it exhausted recently, the hospital authority has forwarded a proposal for release of further funds for procurement of such a vital factor for Hemophilic patients. In the meantime, the Hospital authorities were asked to procure the drugs/Factor-VIII to the extent of Rs. 3 lakh on the approved source although funds were not available.
Referring to use of sub-standard drugs, he said the drug/Factor-VIII is being procured by the Hospital authorities once it is approved by a Committee of Technical Experts constituted for the purpose and after observing all codal formalities.  It is now one year the drug/Factor-VIII from the same approved source is being administered to the patients and till now no reports either from any of the treating physician or from any other authority have been received where it shows that the approved drug/Factor-VIII is sub-standard.
