PDP
celebrates 13th Foundation
Day
Mufti
urges PM to accept Zardari’s invite
‘New
Delhi wants hand picked yes-men in J&K, people should resist that’
Delhi
should learn to trust Kashmiris: Mehbooba
Srinagar,
July 30 (VOS): Urging New Delhi to change its political attitude towards
Jammu and Kashmir and calling upon Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to accept
the invitation of President Asif Ali Zardari to visit Pakistan, PDP Patron
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said unless internal and external dimensions of
J&K are addressed effectively ‘the sore will continue to fester’.
Addressing a mammoth
gathering of PDP workers on the 13thFoundation day anniversary at TRC ground
here, Mufti said J&K can not be denied its right to decide its own destiny
through democratic methods. Mufti said President Zardari’s invite to Prime
Minister Dr Singh to visit that country on Guru Nank Dev Ji’s birth anniversary
reflects change of attitude in Pakistan establishment including army and our
country should respond to this transformation.
On this occasion a resolution
was passed by the gathering detailing the party’s Self Rule agenda and trust
deficit between the people of J&K and rest of the country. On Mufti’s
suggestion the gathering amended the resolution to include its demand for the
Prime Minister Dr Singh to resume dialogue at the highest level with its
Pakistani counterpart.
The PDP patron said it was
unfortunate that Dialogue Process between two countries has been reduced to
cosmetic photo sessions without concluding any concrete decisions. Mufti said
that though people of J&K do not expect any major breakthrough in the
upcoming meeting of heads of the two countries but the process of dialogue
which has unfortunately got stalled must start somewhere. “We want them to take
J&K specific confidence building measures in the upcoming meet between
Foreign Ministers’ S M Krishna and Hina Rabbani Khar,” he demanded.
Mufti cautioned New Delhi
against its’ over bearing attitude towards J&K saying that it must have
again witnessed the result of 2008 election manipulations. “First they
subverted the democratic process in 1987 and then in 2008 through tactical
rigging. The results are obvious. The present dispensation in J&K has lost
its legitimacy,” he observed. The PDP patron said that unfortunately, the
establishment in Delhi has not been comfortable with strong representative
voices from J&K and it has historically promoted hand picked yes-men who
can carry out orders of establishment. “It is time that the people of the state
realize the power of vote which alone can change our destiny and enable us to
fight the hegemonic mindset,” Mufti observed.
He said while strong regional
parties have emerged throughout the country giving it true democratic and
federal structure, unfortunately, leaders like Mamata Banerjee, Jay Lalita, or
Akhilesh Yadav are not allowed to emerge out in J&K.
While referring to dismal
functioning of the present dispensation in J&K Mufti said that Armed Forces
Special Powers Act has been made a mere slogan by the present government but on
ground it has even failed to take action against its own policemen involved in
2010 killings. “Have this government concluded any inquiry in a single case of
120 innocent civilian killings that took place in 2010. The National Conference
surrendered all the power projects to NHPC and the biggest treachery with the
people of J&K was when it surrendered the sovereignty of J&K Bank to
RBI. This government has missed the deadline of municipal elections which were
otherwise scheduled to be held in 2010. The Panchayats have been virtually
rendered defunct. For the last four years there has been no purposeful district
development board meeting and planning process has been rendered to selective
distribution of funds. The entire system of governance is defunct,” Mufti
remarked.
He said the PDP which was
founded in 1999 with immediate purpose of relieving the people of the state of
the pain inflicted by an insensitive system had evolved into a viable forum for
resolution. The PDP Patron said the party’s vision of establishing a Free
Economic Zone (FEZ) while making the LOC irrelevant has been suffering in the
last few years due to administrative inertia. He said the present dispensation
has utterly failed to facilitate trade across LoC as was envisioned at the time
of opening of traditional routes in PDP tenure. He said free access to out side
world, reopening of historic routes, return of the power projects and
restoration of democratic institutions are at top of the PDP agenda.
Mufti said PDP’s vision
document Self Rule envisages rollback of Article 356 of Indian constitution and
its demand for an elected governor will reflect a true federal system in India.
Mufti advocated for better representation in state versus central ratio in
administration saying that 90 per cent of locals should constitute quota of
IAS, IPS and other civil services in J&K and there should be a symbloc
representation from outside the state.
Mufti urged the Prime
Minister Dr Singh not to make the present position of trade and people to
people contact across LoC static. He said there was a dire need of strong
impetus in this direction. The PDP patron urged his party members to create
a better awareness about its agenda by reaching out to people in every corner
of the state.
On this occasion, Mehbooba
Mufti, president PDP said that it was accepted from this government to open new
avenues for youth of the state but instead the youth have been made a focused
victim of inefficency, corruption and police repression. She said everything in
J&K is on sale whether it is jobs, contracts ad transfers. The corruption
industry is growing by leaps and bounds. Mehbooba said the present government
has failed to fulfill the commitment of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah which he
made on the floor of legislative assembly that all FIRs against youth would be
withdrawn. Instead, she said, more youth have been arrested and false and
fabricated cases registered against teenagers.
She warned the government
that PDP could not wait indefinitely for these FIRs to be withdrawn. Mehbooba
said the people of J&K could not be denied their democratic right for too
long. “I call upon leaders in New Delhi to learn to trust the people of
J&K. They are the best security for the state and the country. The laws
like AFSPA which took another youth Hilal Ahmad Dar in Bandipore have to go and
security forcdes which have perfomed their duties of restoring peace have to be
relieved from civilian areas,” Mehbooba observed.
She said the state has to
come out of the siege that was laid around by circumstances created by
partition. “I am requesting New Delhi that we don’t want go away but don’t
imprison us. Allow us to use the routes that connect us to outside world in
Central Asia and other countries as much as other roads that connect us with
the country. She said the future of J&K lies in liberating it from the
present state of siege and reopening its traditional routes along LoC.
“Alongwith this we need improved connectivity between regions and sub regions .
For this state government will need central government assistance for tunnels
to connect Kishtwar-Gadol, Bandipore-Gurez, Thathri-Doda and Kupwara-Karnah,”
she said, while urging upon party workers to educate the people about the
positive nature of PDP vision of peace and prosperity.
Significantly, the function
was attended by Kashmiri pandit’s affliated with PDP who had come from across
the state. All the MLAs, MLCs, District Presidents and other office bearers of
the party were present on the occasion.
Mirwaiz for making
cross LoC trade easy
Srinagar,
July 30 (VOS): Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today
stressed on the need for making the cross-LOC trade easy.
Mirwaiz said the contacts
between the cross LOC traders should be strengthened. However, he said, the big
part of cross-LOC trade is still in the hands of non-Jammu and Kashmir traders.
Terming it as an economic exploitation, he said it was against the interest of
Kashmiri traders for whom the trade was initiated.
Mirwaiz opined his views
while addressing a gathering at the historic shrine of Hazrat Naqashbandh Sahab
(RA) on the Youm-e-Wisaal (death anniversary) of Ummul Momineen Hazrat Khadija
tul Kubra (R A).
APHC Chairman said the
objectives for which the cross LOC trade was initiated are dying a slow death
due to unnecessary intervention of non-state traders and customs department. He
said that the cross- loc trade should have been purely run by the state
subjects so that the people from both Kashmir’s would have immensely benefited
from it. He said that he would take up this matter with Pakistani establishment
during his visit to Pakistan.
Mirwaiz expressed his
surprise over the fact that on one hand the Indian mainstream parties were
allowed to hold public rally while as on another people were kept under hostage
and subjected to immense inconvenience due to security hurdles in this sacred
month. Taking a further dig, he said that Indian parties were allowed to hold
rallies under the shade of gun while hurriyat leadership was put under house
detention, even not allowed to offer Friday, leave aside performing their
political activities.
Mirwaiz said that the whole
state machinery is pressed into service if NC and PDP have to hold rally.
“If we have to go to a place
for even offering condolences, we are locked by the puppet administration in our
houses,” he said.
Meanwhile, earlier Mirwaiz
inaugurated Wall Max Shopping Mall at Munawarabad Srinagar. During the event,
he said that the youth should not wait for the government jobs and waste their
precious time, instead, they should take business as their mode of earning
livelihood. Mirwaiz said that in the economically backward state, unemployment
was growing on a rapid pace which was a measure cause of worry for the youth.
Shedding light on the life
Ummul Momineen Hazrat Khadija tul Kubra (R A), APHC Chairman said women fold
should make her as their role model follow her foot-steps.

judicial commission and stressed upon the Amnesty International to take

”Jamaat-e-Islami J&K describes the killing of an innocent Bandipora boy, Hilal Ahmad Dar an eye-opener for the world-community as to how the Muslim youth are killed in this part of the globe by hatching conspiracies of pseudo-encounters”, said the Jamaat spokesperson Advocate Zahid Ali in a statement.
If the theory of
investigating agency is believed to be true, why instead of approaching a
single boy, the army contingent in ambush fired on him indiscriminately, asked
the spokesperson.
“On the other hand those
people, who saw the dead body of Hilal, say that there were visible torture
marks on his body which indicates something else. It seems that the
investigating agency is trying to give a clean
