Anjuman-e-Ulema-e-Ahnaf welcomes decision to
provide security to shrines
Srinagar, July 21 (VOS): The Jammu
and Kashmir Anjuman-e-Ulema-e-Ahnaf has welcomed the government’s move to
provide security to sufi shrines and religious places across the valley. In a
statement the organisation’s head Moulana Akhzar Hussain has urged the
government to cover all religious places in providing security to them. He said
some people are hell bent upon harming sufi shrines to remove peoples love and
devotion towards the revered Sufis.
The Anjuman will soon call a
session of all religious organization with similar ideology to frame a common
strategy for protection of these shrines. (VOS)
Lecture on Quran , Modern
Global Challenges at K U
Srinagar, July 21 (VOS):Faruq Mullah, Make Field Institute of Higher Learning London UK, delivered an extension lecture on the topic ‘The Quran and Modern
Global Challenges’ at Kashmir university.
Invited by the Shah-i-Hamadan
Institute of Islamic Studies, University of Kashmir, the guest spoke in great detail about the challenges which Islam
faces from the wider world. Despite the overwhelming global influences of
western ideas Islam has proved beyond any doubt the potential to teach the
world, the ideas and moral lessons, said Mullah.
Regarding the challenges to
the contemporary Muslim society he said that the challenges are not unique to
Muslims only but there are challenges like breakdown of social relations, drug
addiction, global warming etc; and the Quran has the substantial solution for
all these challenges.
Islam is the best religion on
earth and it demands the solutions for every community, said Faruq Mullah. He
spoke in a great detail regarding the role of women, impact of terrorism and poverty in the contemporary society. Regarding all the challenges
we need to strike a balance between extremism and liberalism said the speaker,
Faruq Mullah, who is a renowned scholar has visited more than 50 countries and
is well aware about the challenges Muslims face in the west. This session was
followed by an interactive session between students, scholars and Professors.
Professor Hamidullah Marazi
(Hamid Naseem Rafiabadi), Director Shah-i-Hamadan Institute of Islamic Studies
spoke on the occasion and expressed his desire to have progressive interactions
of Department of Islamic Studies with Make Field Institute in near future.
Regarding the challenges Professor Rafiabadi stated that Muslims need to
understand the factors behind the rise of the West and subsequently the fall of
Muslim world in modern times .
Professor Noor Ahmad Baba from
the department of political science gave the presidential address and
highlighted the need for tolerance and broadmindedness in academic discussions
.Prof B A Dabla, Head Deptt of Sociology, Prof Taskeena Fazil, Director Iqbal
Institute of Culture and Philosophy Kashmir university, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai
were prominent among the scholars who attended the lecture. Dr. Abdul Rashid
Bhat, Associate professor Department of Islamic Studies presented vote of thanks
in the end.
Yateem foundation awards 478
Scholarships, 69 Lacs spent under
55 students including 26
Females Selected for HESP -2012
Srinagar, July 21 (VOS): On the
basis of J&K Yateem Foundations 10th Annual Post Matric Higher Education
Scholarship Programme HESP Entrance Examination- 2012, held on May 27, 2012, 55
candidates including 26 female students have been selected for the scholarship
programme under HESP- 2012, said a statement issued by the foundation.
Around 300 candidates
including 127 female candidates from 12 districts in J&K
Appeared in the J&K Yateem
Foundation's 10th Annual Post Matric Higher Education Scholarship Programme
HESP Entrance Examination -2012 at S.P. College, Srinagar on May 27,2012.
Since 2002 , 478 scholarships
including that of year 2012, have been awarded under HESP by J&K Yateem
Foundation incurring and expenditure of nearly 69 Lacs, added the statement.
Similarly, under another
category titled HESP Professional started in 2004, J&K Yateem Foundation
has awarded 18 scholarships @ Rs. 10,000/- per annum, for pursuing professional
courses. “Under this programme 14 candidates have completed professional
courses with 05 in MBBS; 01 each in BVSc, BSc Nursing & MSC IT; 02 in BCA
and 04 in B.Ed. Under HESP Professional an amount
of Rs. 05.98 Lacs have been
spent from 2004 to 2011. The final selection list is available at J&K

Sibal visits cultural academy,
interacts with writers, poets
Srinagar, July 21 (VOS): Union
Minister for Human Resource Development, Kapil Sibal, who is on day long tour
of the State, visited Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Language
(J&K AAC&L), Srinagar today.
Member Parliament and
President, JKPCC Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz, Minister for Tourism and Culture,
Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister for Enterprises Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed ,
Minister for Medical Education and Youth Services and Sports R S Chib also
accompanied the Union Minister.
Interacting with the poets,
authors and writers, Sibal said that there genuine demands would be looked into
and took up with the concerned Ministries for early redressal.
Secretary, J&K AAC&L
Bashir Ahmad Bhat in his welcome address gave a brief account of history of
Academy and its working for the promotion and preservation of Art, Culture and
Languages in the State. The ‘Tahzeeb Mahal’ a proposed Cultural Centre is also
coming up at an estimated cost of Rs. 87 crore at Srinagar.
A Power point presentation was
also made on the occasion.
Earlier, the Union
Minister went round the stalls and witnessed the rare books, artifacts and
paintings
