Kashmir not a water and barter
issue: Inqilabi
Srinagar, July 21 (VOS): Chief Patron Jammu Kashmir Mahaz-e-Azadi (MeA) Muhammad Azam
Inqilabi Saturday criticized Pakistan’s Kashmir policy and termed it as
‘apologetic’.
He condemned arrest of
pro-resistance leaders including Shabir Shah, Nayeem Khan and Javaid Mir and
others at Islamabad.
In a statement issued here,
Inqilabi termed the arrests as “interference in religious matters”.
“We strongly condemn this
police action. Indian government should reconsider its macavellian tactics in
Kashmir, as they are fraught with dangerous consequences,” he said.
MeA patron said the arrested
pro-resistance leaders have played vital role in reviving of political
institutions here. He also condemned the re-arrest of Muslim League Chairman
Mushtaq-ul-Islam. Mushtaq was to address a press conference in Srinagar when
police arrested him just five days after his release from a 20-month detention.
“These are the things due to
which we consider the cross-Loc trade of onions and potatoes as an attempt to
procrastinate the issue of Kashmir,” Inqilabi said.
He said “cosmetic measures” on
Kashmir can’t ward-off threats posed by lingering of this issue.
He said India and Pakistan
should give Kashmiris their right of self-determination. “This is the only way
of achieving long lasting peace in the region.”
MeA patron criticized
Pakistan’s “apologetic” Kashmir policy, which according to him has emboldened
Indian government to “lockdown pro-resistance leaders in houses and jails.”
“This policy may have serious
repercussions as youth are thinking on other options to continue the struggle.
This cross-Loc trade will become a dream then.”
He said Pakistan should
seriously give thought to its Kashmir policy. “Due to Pakistan’s weakness we
are being persecuted.”
Inqilabi said, “Kashmir is not
a barter and water issue. It is the issue of right of self-determination to be
conceded to Kashmiris.”
