Congress trying to demean, weaken us: Kamal
“No accord only understanding reached between Sheikh Abdullah, Indira Gandhi in 75”
“All congressmen want to be leaders, they have no workers”
“Justice Sagheer suppressed, pressurized; report tampered with”
(VOS)
Srinagar, July 09: Raising pitch amidst heated war of words between the two coalition partners in the state government, National Conference (NC) Additional General Secretary Sheikh Mustafa Kamal said the Congress party is pressurizing NC as they (Congress) were inclined towards PDP. “They have an alternative available and they want to go with PDP”, said Dr Mustafa Kamal in a telephonic conversation with VOS. Kamal was reacting to recent statements issued by certain state congress leaders.
Kamal refused to accept an accord was reached between Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and Indira Gandi in 1975. “Which accord are you talking about? How did they (Congress leaders) conclude that an accord was signed?”, asked Kamal while reacting to state congress leader and Minister for PHE Taj Mohiuddin’s statement where he had called the 1975 accord as being the only basis to decide future of the state.” However, there was an understanding reached between Sheikh and Indira Gandhi in 1975 which was based on deliberations between Mirza Afzal Beigh and G. Parthashastry”, he added. He said the understanding was reached to review all the central laws extended to the state from 1953 onwards by the then “puppet governments”. The agreement was never signed by the two leaders, he added.
He said the accord was never finalized or signed by Sheikh and Gandhi. “If there was an accord, whey was it not presented to the cabinet or the assembly? Someone had to sign it or the cabinet or assembly should have ratified it”, he said.
Kamal said the Congress party had buried even what he called “Beigh-Parthashastry accord”. “They buried it in 1977 by appointing Mufti Mohammad Syeed as the leader of the house”, he said adding Late Mir Qasim had in his biography negated the existence or signing of the accord.
The NC Additional General Secretary said the Congress was trying to show down the National Conference by issuing statements against it. “They are trying to de-mean and humiliate us. Their only aim is to weaken us”, he said.
Reacting to Taj Mohiuddin’s statement where he had called autonomy as a closed chapter, the NC leader said autonomy was the only viable solution to the issue. “It might be Taj Saheb’s wish”, he said asking why the congress members had voted for autonomy resolution in the state Assembly. “If it was a closed chapter, why was Karan Singh made the Chairman of the autonomy committee in 1999? Why was Balraj Puri its member”, he asked. Kamal said the interlocutors of GoI and the justice Sagheer Working Group strengthen the case of autonomy. He said the Congress party was misleading people of the state by hiding realities.
Dr Kamal said the Justice Sagheer report has been tampered with. “Why was it held back for so long? Late Justice Sagheer was himself pressurized and suppressed for very long time”, he said. He also alleged the central government of practicing double standards. He was reacting to the statement of PHE Minister Taj Mohiuddin where he had said the Justice Sagheer WG did not give any recommendation on its own.
When asked if his statements can result in discord between the coalition partners and destabilize the coalition, the firebrand NC leader asked “When was stability there”? Saying stability was the compulsion of those sitting in Chair. “Kissa kursi ka hai”, he said
“They should not give wrong statements, misrepresent facts, we will also stop talking”, he said adding they (NC) are bound to defend their leader late Sheikh Abdullah when he is not there to defend himself. “They have been making baseless allegations and wrong statements against Sheikh Sahab right since 75. We are here to defend hi when he is not here to defend himself”, he said
Refusing to react to the statement of State Congress General Secretary Ravinder Sharma made earlier today, Kamal said he does not accept him (Sharma) as a leader. “All congress people want to be leaders. There are no workers there”, he said
When asked whether his statements were against the interest of his party or amount to indiscipline, Kamal said people will decide that. “Party is connected to people and people know what is what”, he retorted. (VOS)
Congress aghast over Kamal’s statements
“Can disturb coalition”
(VOS)
Jammu, July 09: Taking strong exception to the repeated anti-Congress statements of National Conference leader Dr. Mustafa Kamal, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee has asked its coalition partner to ‘stop it forthwith’ which can lead to disturbing the smooth function of the coalition.
In a strong reaction to the repeated statements of the official spokesman of National Conference Dr. Kamal allegedly against the Congress party and its leaders, J&KPCC General Secretary and official spokesperson Ravinder Sharma termed these utterances as ‘highly’ ‘objectionable’, ‘mischievous’ and ‘distortion of historical facts’, which are intolerable by the Congress cadres.
He said Dr. Kamal should know that it is due to the support of Congress party that National Conference is in power and leading the coalition with Omar Abdullah as Chief Minister and his elder brother Dr. Farooq Abdullah is enjoying Ministerial berth in Union Government.
“The National Conference leadership has not only rewarded Dr. Kamal by appointing him as General Secretary and Spokesman but has assigned him to continue to issue false and baseless statements against congress party and its leaders, in order  to keep up sagging morale of National Conference cadres”, Sharma said in a statement.
The Congress cadres would no longer tolerate these ‘false’, ‘baseless’, ‘malicious’, ‘mischievous’ statements of the official spokesman of National Conference and would be forced to take up the issue with Congress high command, the statement added.
