CPC discusses matters of public importance
Asks people to approach it for redressal of grievances

Srinagar, Jul 9: Committee on Petitions (PC) of Legislative Assembly on Monday asked the people to approach the Committee for redressal of their grievances and other about public importance issues both individually and collectively, however, the cases should not be sub-judice. The Committee will examine and entertain only such petitions who have been denied justice from the concerned quarters. 
The Committee, which met today under the Chairmanship MLA G.A. Mir, here discussed overall working of the Petition Committee and held a detailed discussion on the status of previous petitions received by the Assembly Secretariat. The committees also deliberated upon the petition received by the Assembly Secretariat of residents of Rose Lane Colony Chanapora regarding drainage system. The Committee directed the officers of Assembly Secretariat to obtain comments from Housing and Urban Development in this regard within a week’s time. It was also decided that the committee will summon Housing and Urban Development Department in its next meet in this pursuit.
Legislators, Advocate Abdul Haq and Mushtaq Ahmad Shah gave their suggestions to further improve the functioning of the Committee.
The Chairman of the Committee called for wide publicity of the functioning of the Committee through print and electronic media so that general masses are made aware about the benefits of the Committee. Senior officers of Assembly Secretariat also attended the meeting.

First Sopore T-20 Cricket Contest
MCC Reds and Ashraf Club defeat Opposite Teams

Srinagar, Jul 9: In the ongoing Sopore T-20 Cricket Contest, two matches were played today here at Khushal Sports Stadium Sopore.
The first match was played between Khushal Sports Sopore and MCC Red Sopore. Playing first MCC Reds set a huge target of 178 runs before the opposite team losing four wickets only. In return Khushal Sports were bundled out for just 54 runs loosing the match by a wide margin of 123 runs. Ajaz Ahmad of the winning team played brilliantly and scored 82 runs. He was declared as man of the match.
The second match of the tournament was played between Asian Computers Cricket Club Down Town and Ashraf Cricket Club Sopore. Ashraf Sports played first and scored 134 runs setting a moderate target before the opposite team. However Asian Club could not pursue the target and were all out for 121 runs losing the match by 13 runs. Feroze Ahmad, captain of Ashraf Club was declared man of the match, for his individual score of 44 runs and clinching one wicket.

Dy CM wants early completion of Dal development projects
Nasir calls for application of judicious land management

Srinagar, July 09: Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand has asked the officers of LAWDA to speed up work on Dal Development Projects and ensure that projects taken up are completed as per schedule.
Deputy Chief Minister was presiding over 19th Board of Directors meeting of Lakes and Water Ways’ Development Authority [LAWADA) here today.
Minister of State for Housing & Urban Development, Home and Tourism, Nasir Aslam Wani, Principal Secretary Housing and Urban Development, Suresh Kumar, Vice Chairman, LAWADA, Erfan Yasin besides other senior officers  were present on the occasion.
Tara Chand said that city population is on rise which has necessitated for providing increased basic amenities to the people and asked the officers to formulate future Dal development plans keeping in account growing needs of the people.  He instructed them to connect all leftover areas with the Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) constructed around the Dal Lake to ensure flow of cultured water into Lake.
Deputy Chief Minister instructed the authority to increase men and machinery on all projects, in view of limited working season, for their timely completion. Emphasizing on inter departmental coordination, he asked officers to keep constant check and ensure that no encroachment shall taken place in and around the Lake.     
Nasir Aslam Wani said that time management is essential and important factor of project planning and directed the officers of Authority to apply strict time management. Stressing for judicious use of LAWADA land, he asked for application of land management techniques while making any infrastructure creation plan.
The meeting was informed that two more STPs at Brari- Nambal and Nallah Ameer Khan are scheduled to be completed by next month.  Apart from reviving and protecting 52 dead springs around the Lake which has increased recharge capacity by 20 cusec daily, the conservation measures undertaken by the Authority have shown encouraging results, it was added.
The meeting was told that Rs. 28 crore  are being spent during current fiscal on development of Rakhi Aaruth colony while rehabilitation plan for Dal dwellers is in progress.


Shabir Shah welcomes yatris at Pahalgam

Srinagar, July 09: Separatist leader and Democratic Freedom Party president Shabir Ahmad Shah today visited different Yatri camps at Pahlagam to welcome the Amarnath Yatris.
Shah went to different camps and interacted with yatris, a statement from the party said. He told the Yatris that the Kashmir issue was a political issue which needs resolution.
The DFP chairman also reminded the yatris of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehrus promise to the Kashmiri people where he had promised to allow Kashmiris to decide their future. However, he told them the Governmetn of India, with the passage of time, forgot its promises.
Shah also asked people to facilitiate yatris and ensure a smooth and comfortable Yatra to them.  He told the Yatris that Kashmiris are peace loving and hospitable people, however India needs to address the issue of Kashmsir which is their long standing demand.
