registers 100% growth in sales, production in Ist Qtr
SRINAGAR, JULY 6:-Urging for a proactive
marketing strategy to promote woolen Industry in the State, the Minister for
Industries and Commerce, Mr. S. S. Slathia today directed the Managing
Director, SICOP to complete construction and renovation of Rs. 53.00 lacs
heritage Showroom at Solina, Srinagar within a month so that it is thrown open
to tourists and visitors for sale cum exhibitions of handmade silken and woolen
products produced of the State.. He also ordered to make the showroom of
Handicrafts Corporation at Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi fully functional
immediately.
Speaking
at the 60th meeting
of Board of Directors of J&K State Handloom Development Corporation Ltd.
here today, Mr. Slathia called for a comprehensive market survey to enhance the
sale of Woollen products adding that the corporation should present its
new products in standard packing in the market to attract customers in bulk. He
also called for a vigorous publicity drive including use of internet, for
launching its new products Like Kani Jamawar Shawls in antique and rare
designs, and traditional Kashmiri hand woven Silken items. He also called
for redoubling efforts for recreation and development of documented designs in
embroidery of Royale motif Pashmina Shawls and Pashmina Shawls of
Samba which are of high and heritage value.
Mr.
Slathia said recognition and acceptability of “Poshis Brand” among customers
should be the bench mark of performance instead of only profitability.
Mr.
Slathia also urged for removing bottlenecks in the expeditious implementation
of the IInd Phase of Rs. 16.56 cr Integrated Wool and Woolen Design Development
Centre at Srinagar which has been sanctioned by the Development Commissioner of
Handlooms, Union Ministry of Textiles under Prime Minister’s Special Economic
Package for J&K to promote woolen Industry in the State.
While
reviewing the progress of Export oriented Handloom Development Project (
EOHDP) Samba under ASIDE, it was stated that the corporation has taken up the
production of fine quality cotton shirting and linen shirting cloth of
international standard with inhouse processing in the project. The improved
quality fabrics woven and processed in the project are converted into readymade
shirts which are appreciated and received well in the market.
The
Managing Director informed the Board of Directors about the progress achieved
by the Corporation during last fiscal adding that the Corporation has
commissioned ASIDE-Project, set up at Samba-Jammu with input cost of Rs. 673.00
lacs. The ASIDE-Project, Samba is equipped with all pre-weaving and post
weaving facilities including processing and finishing of international standard
cotton base fabrics and houses Fabrics Production Division, Research &
Development Department, Computer aided Designing Lab., Physical/Chemical
Testing Lab., and Trainings Department with. Processing/Finishing Plant. for
skill development and increasing the productivity of Handloom Weavers. He said
the facilities available in ASIDE-Project are open to all weavers on nominal
charges and all Government Departments.
It was
informed that the Corporation has provided 26800 job days to weavers during the
last fiscal and is estimated to provide 58750 job days to weavers during
the current fiscal. He said against the production of 3.07 lac metres of
different kinds of material and 500 nos. of Pashmina Shawls last fiscal, the
Corporation envisages to produce 4.70 lac metres of kind of handloom goods and
1830 nos. of Pashmina Shawls with a target to realize a sale target of Rs.
1294.00 lac during the current fiscal. The achievements in Ist quarter of
current fiscal (2012-13) in comparison to the corresponding period of last fiscal
(2011-12) in respect of production as well as sales is to the tune of
100%.
The MD
informed, the corporation has received initially an order for supply of 550 mts
of sample quantity of fine tweed cloth from FAB India, New Delhi. Besides, the
Corporation is in business and contact with fabric giants /exports houses of
the country for supply of tweeds, shawls, blankets etc.
The
Corporation has also received initially and order for supply of 200 mts of
sample quantity of fine Lines cloth form CHAUBUNDI, Jaipur-Rajasthan.
The
meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary, Finance, Mr. M. I. Khanday,
Commissioner/Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Mr. Shantmanu, Special
Secretary Planning and Development, Mr. M H Malik Director Handloom, Mrs.
Chandra Gupta, Managing Director, HDC, Mr. Showkat Ali and concerned officers
were present in the meeting.
Development works would not be
allowed to suffer for Forest land clearance: Main Altaf
SRINAGAR, JULY 06: Minister for Forest
and Environment Mian Altaf Ahmad today asked for constitution of Joint Committee of the officers of
Roads and Buildings and Forest department for conducting an extensive survey in
district Baramulla so that pending forest land clearance for construction of
various roads in Rafiabad area are settled at the earliest.
The Minister of State for R&B, Mr.
Javid Ahmad Dar was also present.
Speaking at a joint meeting of the
officers and engineers of various departments convened here today, Mian Altaf
asked the forest officers to allow construction of water supply reservoirs
where ever necessary as per standing instructions as such schemes are not much
harmful for the forests and environment.
The Minister also directed the forest
officers to formulate a proposal for construction of eco-friendly rest house at
Braman Rafiabad, which is upcoming tourist area. He also called upon the heads
of various departments to transfer the funds earmarked for land acquisition for
various development works in lieu of forest land.
Mina Altaf said that Government was
keen to solve the problems of the people adding that development of works would
not be subjected to unnecessary delays due to forest land clearance.
Threadbare discussion on forest land
clearance case with regard to construction for roads in Zandfaran to Guriwan
Road, Kahmoh-Bosian, Shalkot, and Binner–Kowdora etc. and construction of PHE
Schemes which includes Malpua, Rohama, Ladi, Aangan, Alsafa Colony, Chaki
GuJri Malapora, Sochlivoran
Heavoran, Malsooma, and Bandibala
during the meeting.
The Chief Engineer R&B, Mr.
Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, Chief Conservator Forest, Mr. Manzoor Ahmad, Chief
Conservator Forest (FCA), Mr. H.S Slathia, Conservator Forest North, Mr. Farooq
Geelani and officers of PHE department and R&B department were present in
the meeting.

Sopore
T-20 Cricket Contest: BCC Kraltang beat Bagi Islam Cricket Club
Srinagar,
July 06 (KNS): In the ongoing Sopore
T-20 Cricket Contest, two matches were played at Khushal Sports Stadium Sopore.
The first match,was played
between wonder Boys Cricket Club Kraltang and Baghi Islam Cricket Club Sopore
at Khushal Sports Stadium Sopore. Playing first Wonder Boys Club Sopore set a
target of 138 runs before the opposite team losing seven wickets. In return
Baghi Islam Cricket Club scored 109 runs only in the allotted overs for six
wickets loosing the match by 30 runs. For his individual score of 50 runs
Mansoor Ahmad of the winning team was declared as man of the match.
The second match of the
tournament was played between Youngsters Cricket Club and GB Riders Naseembagh
Sopore. Playing first Youngsters Cricket club scored 140 runs for the loss of
seven wickets. In return GB Riders Naseembagh fought back and won the match by
3 wikets sparing 09 balls. Junaid Ahmad of the winning team was declared man of
the match, who scored 40 runs.
The contest has been
organized by Police District Sopore under the aegis of DIG North Kashmir,
Baramulla. It is for the first time that Police is organizing such a grand
sports event in Sopore.
