agreements: JCC
Srinagar, Nov 6 (VOS): Amid protests and police action, the state government employees
across the state began their two-day pen down strike on Tuesday to press for
their demands, resulting in disruption of normal work in different government
offices.
Work in most of the state government offices in Srinagar and other
district headquarters of the Kashmir Valley took a hit because of the
employees' strike called by the Joint Consultative Committee, an apex body of
the employees’ organizations.
Meanwhile, Police foiled the Civil Secretariat gherao programme of
JCC on Tuesday in Jammu and arrested around 200 employees. Another
delegation of employees presented a memorandum to Divisional Commissioner
Kashmir in Srinagar.
A group of employees assembled in the premises of the Press
Enclave in Jammu and attempted to proceed towards to Civil Secretariat for its
proposed gherao. Large contingents of police were deployed in the area, which
swung into action disallowing the protesters from proceeding further. Upon
resistance from the employees, Police lathicharged the demonstrators to
disperse them during which three employees- Syeda ladakhi, Riyaz Ahmad Sofi and
Abdul Majeed Parray received injuries. They were hospitalized later for treatment,
sources said.
JCC leaders, Khursheed Aalam and Abdul Qayoom Wani were arrested
along with around 200 other employees and lodged at Gandhi Nagar Police Lines.
Meanwhile, the JCC leadership has reiterated its pen down call and
threatened the government with a sustained agitation if their demands were not
met.
Government has to face dire consequences, if demands of JCC are
not met. “Government cannot make promises to break them. We’ll launch an
indefinite agitation across the State if the government doesn’t implement its
promises without any delay”, said Aalam while talking to VOS from Jammu on
phone.
“Government had asked for time till September which has passed
off, now we’ve no option but to launch a massive agitation”, added Aalam.
Another leader of the JCC, Abdul Qayoom Wani said that the
government cannot suppress the voices and genuine demands of the employees
using force. “JCC has always supported the peaceful agreements and dialogue for
its demands but it is the government which is backtracking from its promises
and agreements it entered with JCC”, said Qayoom.
The JCC is going to frame its further programme on Wednesday and
