Chamber of Commerce
and Industry delegation present their demands to Governor
JAMMU, NOVEMBER 12 – A large delegation of the Chamber of Commerce
and Industry, Jammu, met Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here today
and presented to him their development-oriented demands.
The demands presented by the 15-member delegation led by Mr. Y. V. Sharma,
President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, included, interalia, setting
up of a rail coach factory in Jammu Division, speedy construction of a
Convention Centre at Jammu, installation of Gondola between Mubarak Mandi and
Bagh-i-Bahu, provision of more fly-overs in Jammu city for better traffic
management and implementing well considered measures for the promotion of
tourism in Jammu region.
The delegation congratulated the Governor, who is Chairman of the Shri Mata
Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, for the construction of the Kalika Dham Complex at
Railhead, Jammu being done on a fast pace and for the progress being achieved
on various fronts, including the functioning of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi
University and the work on the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical
Excellence getting completed shortly. The delegation thanked the Governor for
taking keen interest in the economic development of the State.
Interacting with the delegation, the Governor highlighted the important role
which the Chambers of Commerce and Industry have to play in securing the steady
and sustained economic growth of the State.
Referring to the various demands projected by the delegation, the Governor
assured that he shall take up all these issues with the concerned authorities
in the Central and the State Governments.
The President and other members of the delegation greeted the Governor on the
festival of Diwali. Reciprocating their sentiments, the Governor prayed for the
well-being, happiness and prosperity of the people of the State.
The delegation included Mr. Sham Lal Langer, Senior Vice President, Chamber of
Commerce and Industry, Jammu; Mr. Anil Gupta, Junior Vice President; Mr. Arun
Gupta, Secretary General; Mr. Deepak Aggarwal, Secretary; and Mr. Bharat

Governor, First
Lady celebrate Diwali with staff, security personnel
JAMMU, NOVEMBER 12 –
On the eve of Diwali, a function was organized at Raj Bhavan here this evening
in which Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, and Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady, celebrated
the festival of lights with staff of the Governor’s Secretariat and security
personnel. The event organized in the magnificent lawns of Raj Bhavan made the
auspicious occasion a memorable one for the participants.
The Governor, and the
First Lady, extended Diwali greetings and offered sweets to all those assembled
on the occasion. They interacted with all members of staff of the Governor’s
Secretariat and the security personnel and wished them and their families
well-being and prosperity.

Chairman J&K Bank
meets Governor
JAMMU, NOVEMBER 12 –
Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad, Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Bank, called on Mr. N. N. Vohra,
Governor, at Raj Bhavan, here today.
During the meeting,
Mr. Ahmad briefed the Governor about the measures being taken by the J&K
Bank to advance loans to the artisans, craftsmen, un-employed youth and others
for establishing their own ventures under various self-employment schemes.
The Governor
complimented Mr. Ahmad on the high ratings recently secured by the J&K Bank
and the awards received for the high level of operational efficiencies achieved
by J&K Bank. He urged the Chairman to ensure that the Bank continued to
play a significant role in speeding up all round growth and development in the
State.
VC Jammu University
calls on Governor
JAMMU, NOVEMBER 12 – Prof. M. P. S. Ishar, Vice Chancellor,
University of Jammu, called on Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here
today.
The Governor, who is
Chancellor of the Jammu University, discussed with Prof. Ishar issues relating
to the effective implementation of the University’s objectives of teaching and
research, particularly through sustained guidance to the affiliated
institutions.
The Governor
also discussed with the Vice Chancellor several important issues relating to
the functioning of off-site Campuses.

11th batch
of 267 Hajis received at Srinagar Airport
SRINAGAR,
NOVEMBER 12: As many as 267 Haj pilgrims comprising of 154 male and 113 female
after performing Haj Bait-ul-Ullah returned from Saudi Arabia this morning.
The
Haj pilgrims were received at Srinagar International Airport by Director,
Airport Authority of India, Executive Officer, State Haj Committee, Srinagar
and district administration Budgam, besides officers of civil and police
departments.

NOVEMBER 12: In order to explore the talent of youth in various sports
activities, the District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Anantnag today
conducted District level Panchayat Yuva
Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) tournament at Sports Stadium Anantnag.
District
Development Commissioner, Anantnag, Mr. Farooq Ahmad Shah was the chief guest
on the occasion.
While
speaking on the occasion, District Development Commissioner, Anantnag
congratulated all the participants in different sports categories for their
hearty participation and stressed to conduct such events on regular basis in
order to discover the sports talent among youth.
According
to the statistics available, a general increase in the literacy rate has been
observed in district Anantnag and 90 percent literacy dream will be satisfied
in future, District Development Commissioner Anantnag added. Besides, ADDC,

Attention intending
Haj pilgrims 2013
SRINAGAR,
NOVEMBER 12: According to Executive Officer, J&K State Haj Committee,
Srinagar, it is for information of all the desirous and intending Haj pilgrims
of 2013 that no Haj Application Form shall be entertained without valid
International Passport. It is also informed that the validity of the Passport
should be at least upto March 31, 2012.
Mir distributes 50
devices in Kunzer camp of CWSN
TANGMARG,
NOVEMBER 12: A distribution camp of various devices for Children with Special
Needs (CWSN) was today organized by Chief Education Officer, Baramulla in
collaboration with State Project Director SSA and ALIMCO, Kanpur at Kunzar
Tangmarg.
Minister
for Agriculture and Floriculture, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir was the chief guest at
the occasion.
The
Minister distributed 50 devices including wheel chairs, 30 tricycles, 4
auxiliary crutches, walking sticks, bridle canes and bridle slates among the
children with special needs. Resource persons demonstrated the use of these
appliances and their maintenance.
While
speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that main objective to organize
such camps is to provide aids and appliances to children in schools and outside
schools to make them able to do various activities like other normal children.
The
department not only provides them aids and appliances but also takes care of
their education at par with normal schools. In addition to this, the department
is providing home tuitions, escort allowances, besides arrangements for their
surgical corrections, the Minister
said.
Among
others the function was attended by all Zonal Education Officers, District
Coordinator CWSN and field functionaries.
NDRF conducted
awareness programme at Kupwara
KUPWARA, NOVEMBER
12: A search and rescue team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) today
conducted an awareness programme on disaster management at Government Boys High
School, Shumnagh, Kupwara, in which a large number of students, civilians and
army personnel also participated.
The
Principal of Government Boys High School, Shumnagh Kupwara, Mr. A.M. Khan
participated as Chief guest on the occasion.
While
speaking, the chief guest impressed upon the people to coordinate with the NDRF
to tackle any eventuality during any disaster in their areas and be ready to
save human lives.
A
team of trained personnel have carried out a demonstration to acquaint the
students with different techniques to save human lives during any natural
calamity.
The
people who were present on the occasion appreciated the team of NDRF for
demonstration of the mock drill. Such programmes have also been conducted at
Handwara, Doniwari and Shumnagh in Government educational institutes in which
teachers, students and local youth participated.

Asks to ensure
judicious distribution of LPG
SRINAGAR,
NOVEMBER 12: The Minister of State for Forest, Environment & Ecology,
Transport, Labour & Employment, Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution
and Power, Mr. Shabir Ahmad Khan while presiding over an officers meeting here
today reviewed the stock and supply position of various essential commodities
in the Valley.
The
meeting among others attended by Director CA&PD, Kashmir, Regional
Transport Officer Kashmir, Deputy Controller Legal Metrological, General
Manager SRTC, Senior Sales Officer HPCL and officers of CA&PD and other
department.
The
meeting discussed threadbare the issues related to supply of various
commodities to people particularly during ensuing winter season and
Muharram-ul-Harram.
Director
CA&PD Kashmir while apprising about the stock position with the department
said that 3.61 lakh quintals of rice, 1.12 lakh quintals of atta, 34.1 quintals
of sugar and 96 kiloliters of kerosene oil is available with the department of
the Valley, besides 1065 quintals of rice, 779 quintals of atta and 284
quintals of sugar has been stocked in Shia dominated areas.
While
giving the details of LPG, the Minister was informed 2.61 lakh LPG cylinders
are available for distribution in the Valley.
Senior
Sales Officer HPCL informed the meeting that the company has started home
delivery of LPG cylinders form today. He said that one member of each family
will be provided gas connection by the HPCL and as a matter of fact, it has
been observed that each individual of a family is submitting necessary form for
registration in three different oil companies.
Senior
Sales Officer appealed the people that they should strictly adhere to the norms
by submitting their form to only one company so that each family can be
facilitated.
The
Minister directed the gas companies to personally monitor the distribution of
LPG by the distributors so that the system goes on smoothly and distribution is
ensuring judiciously.
The
officers of Legal Metrology informed the meeting that their department
intensifying the market checking through squads so that the profiteers and are
controlled from selling essential commodities at high rates especially during
auspicious days during Muharram-ul-Harram.
The
Minister directed the Regional Transport Officer Kashmir to ensure transport
facilities on all routes till late in the evening and also put a check on over
charging of Sumo drivers from commuters.
Mir, Ruhullah took
stock of Muharram arrangements at Budgam
BUDGAM,
NOVEMBER 12: The Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir, who is also
the Chairman of District Development Board Budgam urged upon the district
administration to take proactive measures to mitigate the basic requirements
required for hassle free Muharram celebrations in and around district Budgam.
The
Minister said this while chairing a high level meeting convened here today in
connection with Muharram arrangements in Budgam.
The
meeting was also attended by Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Science
Technology, Aga Syed Ruhullah, district administration was represented by
District Development Commissioner, Budgam, Mr. M.A. Gannie besides
representatives from four prominent Shia organizations namely Aunjmani Shari
Shia, Aunjmuni Shari Shia Darul Mustafa, Ithad-ul-Muslimeen and all J&K
Shia Association were also present in the meeting.
The
Minister during the interaction with the representatives obtained a detailed
feedback from them about what needs to be done in the ensuring
period and what has been done till date in their respective areas with regard
to their submission of detailed proposals for various works to be executed by
the district administration.
Stressing
the need to ensure adequate supply of essential commodities including Rice,
Sugar, Atta, Kerosene Oil, Firewood etc. during this period, the Minister said
administration apparatus must gear up their focus of objectives to bring
efficiency in the execution. He directed PHE, PDD authorities to ensure
uninterrupted supply of drinking water and electricity in the Shia habitant areas
during this month.
Speaking
in the meeting, Aga Ruhullah said that due to strong commitment of the
coalition government and unending efforts of Chief Minister, a specific
programme has been earmarked to negotiate the Muharram requirements in allover
the State. He said during past four years the Government has stopped the drill
of executing temporary arrangements during Muharram period and now our main
focus and thrust is to raise concrete assets by utilizing available handsome
amount for this purpose.
The
Ministers appreciated the efforts of district administration in ensuring
equitable and requirement based execution of works in all areas without any
disparity.

“Machinery Mela” at Sumbal
BANDIPORA, NOVEMBER
12: Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly, Mr. Mohammad Akbar Lone today asked
farmers to adopt new strategy of cultivating crops of higher economic values
& utilizing available land to its optimum to get self-sufficiency in agriculture
production.
The
Speaker was addressing a public meeting after inaugurating “Farm Machinery
Mela” held at Sumbal. He said that Govt. is committed to provide every support
to the farming community for their economic upliftment. He impressed upon farmers
to put every effort to increase productivity and progress in agriculture sector
is important to the overall economic development of State. He advised farmers
to take benefits of “Kissan Prosperity Schemes” and coordinate with Agriculture
Department to increase agriculture production. He said technology based
mechanized farming has revolutionized the agriculture sector across the globe.
He advised youth to come forward & adopt technology based agriculture which
will ensure them livelihood & employment opportunity. He appreciated the
role of Agriculture department for transfer of latest technology &
machinery through such Melas & aware farming community throughout Valley
regarding the agriculture development programmes
Director
Agriculture Kashmir, Dr. Farooq A. Lone said that department is committed for
upliftment of farming community and the need of hour is to develop agriculture
sector on modern scientific lines and thereby increase their production in
agriculture & allied sectors. He impressed upon farmers to avail benefits
from various centrally sponsored schemes available with Agriculture Department
in the form of “RKVY”, “Macro Management”, “Technology Mission”, “ISOPAM” &
“ATMA” etc. He said that the objective of organizing “Farm Machinery Melas”
throughout the Valley is to give complete choice to farmers to purchase the
machinery at negotiated rates from authorized dealers at their doorsteps.
Additional
Development Commissioner Bandipora advised the farmers to give way to modern
& hi-tech agriculture and cooperate with field functionaries of the
department of agriculture for successful implementation of “Kissan Welfare
Schemes” launched by the department.
Several
authorized dealers displayed their stalls in the Mela. Among others present on
the occasion were Chief Agriculture Officer Bandipora, other officers and the
officials of the department besides large number of farmers. Farmers of Sub
Division Sumbal purchased various Agriculture machinery including 15 tractors,
40 power tillers, 110 irrigation pump sets and 20 Mechanized Carts, for which
Department of Agriculture will provide Rs 45.75 lakhs as
subsidy component.
Govt. committed for
upliftment of weaker sections of the society: Sakina
KULGAM, NOVEMBER
12:- Minister for Social Welfare, Ms. Sakina Itoo, said that the
government is committed for the upliftment of people particularly weaker
sections of the society. She said government has initiated several measures for
extending various facilities to people which adequate drinking water, better
road connectivity and electricity, besides employment through MG NREGA.
Ms. Sakina said
that implementation of PSGA, Right to Information Act and launching of various
public welfare benefit schemes are the remarkable achievements of the
government. She urged upon the people to take the benefit of such revolutionary
steps.
She said that
government has taken various steps for the up gradation of education sector on
priority particularly in far flung areas.
On the occasion
various deputations called on the Minister and expressed their gratitude for
upgrading the middle School fulfilling long pending demand of the area. They
also put forth various issues pertaining to the development and welfare of the
area.
Ms. Sakina
gave patient hearing to the deputationists and directed the officers
accompanying her to sort out the genuine problems of the people on priority.
She said that various developmental works have been executed in Tangmarg
Aharbal and its adjoining areas and there is always need for improvement as far
as welfare of the people is concerned.
Later, the Minister
distributed the cheques worth Rs 1.5 Lac under National Family Benefit Scheme
(NFBS) among ten beneficiaries of the area.

Lead Bank District
Advisory Committee held at Shopian
SHOPIAN,
NOVEMBER 12: A meeting of Lead Bank District Advisory Committee was held at
Shopian, which was attended by various banks and district officers.
The
meeting was informed that for annual Credit Action Plan, Rs. 185.47 crore
target has been fixed for the next financial year for Shopian while as the
banks provided Rs. 228.8 crore among 909 persons during the year. This includes
Rs. 2.18 crore for agriculture sector and Rs. 8.36 crore among 351 persons for
setting up of small units in the district.
The
meeting was informed that Rs. 25 lakh were distributed among 70 deserving
persons living below poverty line as loan. Similarly, Rs. 35 lakh were given to
43 persons for pursuing higher education by various banks.
Besides,
21365 farmers were provided Kissan Credit Cards by the banks of the district.
Rana flags off Shoba Yatra of Vishawkarma ji
Jammu November 12: Political Advisor to the Chief Minister Devender Singh Rana
today flagged off an impressive Shoba Yatra of Vishwakarma Ji which was
organized by Pradesh Vishwakarma Sabha.
The
Shoba Yatra comprising of jhankies showcasing different characteristics of
Bhagwan Vishwakarma ji started from Vishwakarma Temple, Gurha Morh Baskshi
Nagar and passed through the main bazars of the Jammu city.
A
large number of people from the different parts of the State participated
giving a festive look to the Shoba Yatra.

Soz felicitates people of Diwali
Srinagar, Nov 12: Former Union Minister and President state Congress Prof.
Saifuddin Soz has felicitated people of State in Particular and Country
in general on the eve of Diwali (Festival of Lights), which is being
celebrated tomorrow on 13th of Novthroughout the country.
In
his message Prof. Soz wished a happy and prosperous Dewali to all and
hoped that this occasion will bring all happiness, prosperity,
progress and peace for the people.
Geelani takes on ‘local administration’
“Following dictates of Delhi, playing a dangerous game”
Srinagar, Nove12: Chairman Hurriyat (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani while presiding
the meeting of executive council of amalgam has strongly criticized the
‘suppressive measures of administration’.
Quoting
Syed Ali Geelani, spokesman said: “The local administration is playing a very
dangerous game and situation can very well go out of hands by this high
handedness of their policy”.
Terming
the foiling of seminar as state terrorism Geelani said, “On one side India is
beating the drum of democracy, on the other they are muzzling the voice of
people by dint of gun”.
The
meeting was attended by all constituents of the APHC and unanimously a
programme was chalked out to carry on-going movement.
According
to the spokesperson, the representatives from respective parties
while criticizing the ban on the proposed seminars on 6th &
10th November, strongly castigated the highhandedness of state
administration and said that they are trying to create a political
vacuum and are bent upon to disturb the system so
that pro freedom parties and their politics do not
prevail.
“There
is no doubt, that they want to create political instability in Jammu and
Kashmir and New Delhi wants to create a vacuum and fill it with their puppets”,
the spokesperson said.
“It
was observed in the executive council that local administration has only one
point programme, follow the dictates of Delhi Government and Omer Abdullah led
administration has no option but to follow the dictates.”, the spokesperson
said.
Declaring
the Omer Abdullah a weak chief minister the statement said that he has
announced a war against people of Jammu and Kashmir and ‘these suppressive
measures will not deter us from our duty ,we are not afraid and we have decided
to face come what may’.
“They
have failed and we will represent the aspirations of our people”.
According
to the statement, the executive council declared: “Delhi is ruling Kashmir and
law and justice is tarnished and Omer Abdullah is obeying the orders of Delhi
like an employee.” However, Geelani said the ‘pressure tactics’ will not deter
us. “We will organize our agitation in any way and mobilize public against the
evil designs of Amarnath Shrine Board. We will continue to reach out to various
sections of society including intellectuals, lawyers, traders, transporters,
students, statement said. Spokesman added that in executive council it was
decided to reach each household if needed. “It is not for the first time that
government has foiled our seminar. Taking a dig at New Delhi for its ‘double
standards,’ Geelani said, “Fifty times more yatries come to Kashmir as compared
to the past. id.. Geelani said, Our demand is that the number of yatries be
contained and the administration of the Shrine Board handed over to local
Pandits.
Taking
the serious note of the ailing Dr Qasim Faktoo Syed Ali Geelani warned the
Government that we cannot compromise on this issue. “The responsibility
lies on administration. We cannot tolerate any bad intentions as per health of
ailing Qasim Faktoo is concerned”, he said.
J&K Bank opens ATM in DPL Budgam
Donates projector, laptop to SKIMS
Srinagar, Nov 12: J&K Bank today commissioned an ATM at District Police
Lines, Budgam.
J&K
Bank President and Zonal Head Kashmir (Central) Bashir Ahmad Lone and DIG
Police (Kashmir) Afadul Mujtaba jointly inaugurated the teller machine in
presence of Cluster Head Abdul Hamid Khan, officers of police and the Bank.
DIG
Kashmir thanked the Bank management for providing state-of-the-art facility for
police personnel at the DPL.
Meanwhile,
Zonal Head handed over a projector and laptop to Director SKIMS Showkat Ahmad
Zargar for office use at SKIMS Medical College and Hospital in Bemina. The
simple but impressive function attended by the Principal SKIMS College and
faculty members.
Speaking
on the occasion, Zonal Head assured the gathering that bank would continue to
fulfill its social commitments towards institution building in J&K
especially hospitals like SKIMS meant for specialised treatments in the state.

SKIMS expressed gratitude for the contributions made by J&K Bank towards
the institute. He thanked the Bank’s leadership for such philanthropic gestures
‘IA captain allegedly abuses, insults Kashmiri Haj Pilgrim’
Srinagar, Nov 12 (VOS):An aggrieved Kashmiri Hajj pilgrim has accused an Indian Airlines
Captain of assaulting him at Jeddah International Ariport after passing
derogatory remarks.
Saleem
Aijaz Nazi of Bijbehra Anantnag said he had boarded the scheduled flight in
Jeddah International Airport on Sunday to return home after performing hajj,
when the incident happened.
“I
was ill and was not able to stand for a long time and sat one of the seats in
the flight as there was no seat number given to the pilgrims. As I sat on
the seat captain Suri without any reason or provocation assaulted me and used
filthy words against me”, said Naazi.
“You
Kashmiris are performing Hajj without paying any fee from your own pocket, you
are mad and deserve such kind of treatment’, Naazi quoted Suri as having told
him in an insulting manner.
Naazi
said that his religious feelings got hurted and tears came in his eyes when the
Suri spoke against the Islam and Hajj. “I have wrote the complaint against the
Suri to the Hajj Committee Srinagar’, said Nazi.
Highly
placed sources in the Hajj Committee Srinagar told VOS that the committee has
forwarded the complaint to Hajj Committee of India and to the State Chief
Minister Omar Abdullah for necessary action.
