fateh, lays floral wreath
SRINAGAR,
SEPTEMBER 08 – Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today visited the grave of Late
Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah at Hazratbal here and offered fateh besides placing
floral wreath on the grave of Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah whose
death anniversary is being observed today.
Omar
Abdullah also offered fateh and floral tributes at the grave of
Madr-e-Meherban. He prayed for peace and prosperity in the State.
In
his message on the death anniversary of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, the Chief
Minister described Sheikh Sahib architect and founder of educative, progressive and secular
democratic society in Jammu and Kashmir based on justice, equality and amity
between all regions and all sections of the society.
Highlighting the struggle and sacrifices made by
Sher-i-Kashmir for the cause of people and the State throughout his life, Omar
Abdullah said that welfare and public empowerment was his cherished desire and
he made all possible endeavours in this direction.
“Sheikh Sahib propagated and nurtured amity,
brotherhood and mutual trust between various sections of the society and lived
as a torch-bearer of Hindu,
Muslim, Sikh, Isahi unity. His
slogan of ‘Sher-i-Kashmir Ka Kya
Irshad, Hindu-Muslim-Sikh Itihad’ (What
is the direction of Sher-i-Kashmir? – It is the unity between Hindu, Muslim and
Sikh) still reverberates in the hearts and minds of people and its resonance is
equally felt in the mountains, valleys and planes of Jammu and Kashmir”, he
said and vowed his commitment for strengthening this preaching and teaching of
Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
Omar said that Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah
laid the edifice of ‘Naya Kashmir’ with a clear vision of public empowerment
and involvement in the formulation and implementation of development plans in
accordance with the aspirations of the people and requirements of the areas. He
said that his government would put in all efforts to work for realizing the
progressive, peaceful and economically welfare New Jammu and Kashmir envisioned
by the late leader.
In a message on the eve of the death anniversary of
Sher-i-Kashmir, the Chief Minister said that the best way of paying tributes to
the great leader is to follow his footprints and work together for achieving
peace and prosperity for the State and strengthening the cherished secular
democratic values advocated and propagated by Sheikh Sahib.
Omar said that the foundation laid by Sheikh Mohammad
Abdullah to universalize education and health care facilities in the State and
uplift the downtrodden sections of the society by upgrading their
socio-economic and education status clearly describes the love Sheikh Sahib
possessed for the common people especially belonging to poorer sections of the
society.
The Chief Minister said that the concept of single
line administration and devolution of power from central level to grass roots
introduced and implemented by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah constitutes the
necessary pillar in good-governance and public empowerment. He said that the
revolutionary measure of land to tiller taken by Sheikh Sahib has helped a lot
to engulf the gap between have and have not’s and built a society on the
principle of equality and justice.
Mian
Altaf calls for speedy recruitment of vacant posts

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER, 08: As a part of Government’s endeavour to
further strengthen the functioning of Forest Department and its allied wings,
the Minister for Forests & Environment Mian Altaf has directed the officers
to refer all the vacancies to the concerned recruitment agencies for filling up
these posts on fast-track basis.
Chairing a high-level meeting of officers held here last evening,
the Minister reviewed the functioning of various wings and status of vacant
posts. He exhorted upon the officers to personally monitor the process of
recruitment for the early filling of these posts so that the deficiency of
manpower was overcome. He urged upon the officers to make the process of
referring the vacancies to the concerned recruitment bodies immediately after
they fall vacant.
The Minister directed the heads of J&K Pollution Control Board
and J&K Forest Protection Force to accomplish the process of recruitment
rules to ensure transparency in their organizations in a time bound manner. He
asked the officers to fix the responsibility for delaying in framing the rules,
adding that no organization can accomplish its legitimate task without proper rules
and regulations, therefore the process of framing the rules should be finished
immediately.
The Minister was apprised that against a total vacancy of 1624
posts of different categories (gazetted/non-gazetted) in allied wings, 1320
posts have already been referred to PSC/SSRB, whereas rest will be referred at
the earliest.
Commissioner/Secretary Forest, Sheikh Aijaz Iqbal and heads of
different wings of the department were present in the meeting.
In Budgam
district replanting of corms is in progress
BUDGAM,
SEPTEMBER 08: Director Law Enforcement M.S. Katoo alongwith Monitoring Team
Members visited the traditional Saffron Growing areas of District Budgam namely
Chadoora, Hayatpora, B.K. Pora, Nagam, Khanda & Hafroo, where rejuvenation
and replanting of saffron corms under “National Mission on Saffron” is in
progress.
During
visit, it was found that saffron growers are quite enthusiastic and the digging
of corms, grading and chemical treatment with recommended fungicides and
replanting of the corms as per the latest technology was in full swing.
While
interacting with farmers at various places, the Director Law Enforcement
impressed upon them to adopt modern and scientific technology to boost
production and productivity of saffron that will lead to their economic
upliftment. The farmers were advised to strictly adhere to the technical advice
disseminated by the field functionaries of the Agriculture Department.
During
the visit, Chief Agriculture Officer, Budgam, M.A. Parray stressed upon Saffron
Growers to coordinate with Agriculture Department for successful implementation
of “National Mission on Saffron”. He said that in District Budgam 300 hectare
of land is under cultivation of saffron and during current year 125 hectare of
land will be brought under Rejuvenation/Replanting of Saffron Corms under
mission. He said that under mission saffron growers will be provided
Vermi-compost, Chemical fertilizers and Fungicide for treatment of saffron
corms.
Saffron
growers Chadoora Sub Division expressed satisfaction about the implementation
of “National Mission on Saffron”.
Power
shut down on Sept 09
SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 08: According to Power Controller, Power Development
Department, Kashmir, in order to construct Barrack Block near electric line,
power supply to the areas fed from 33 KV Bemina-Karan Nagar shall be affected
on September 09, 2012 from 09 a.m. to 5 p.m.
According to another communication from PDD, in order to carry out branch
cutting, power supply to the areas fed from 33 KV Exhibition Line shall be
affected on September 09, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

checking in Srinagar city
Realizes
Rs. 25,000 as fine
SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 08: The Enforcement Squad of Consumer Affairs
and Public Distribution, Kashmir today conducted market checking of Old
Barzulla, K.P. Bagh, Rangreth, Rambagh, Solina, Sempora, Rawalpora, Parimpora,
Lal Bazar, Qamerwari, Bota Kadal, Pakhribal of Srinagar city.
During
the market checking, the squad inspected 85 business establishments and an
amount of Rs. 25,000/- has been recovered as fine from 11 violators for
violation of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. Besides, two illegal gas counters
has been sealed as well as one FIR has been lodged against illegal gas counter
shopkeeper.
Nutrition
Week celebrated at Eidgah
SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 08: An amount of Rs. 90 lakh are being spend
during the current financial year under Nutrition by the ICD Project Eidgah,
Srinagar while as Rs. 75 lakh were also spent on the same programme during last
financial year.
This information was revealed at a function regarding Nutrition Week celebrated
by the Department of ICDS from September 02, 2012 organized by ICDS Project,
Eidgah, Srinagar village Kreshbal here today.
The Chief guest of the function was Programme Officer, ICDS, District Srinagar,
Ms. Mathora whileas Project Officer, ICDS, Eidgah, Ms. Shahzada and other officers
were present.
The aim and objectives of function was to create the awareness among the people
for the benefits of Anganwari Centres.
On the occasion, it was told that in Eidgah Project 215 Anganwari Centres are
function under which 1075 adolescent girls, 1075 pregnant ladies, 1075 nursing
ladies were covered by providing nutrition and medicines as and when needed.
Besides, 2300 children under the age group of 1 to 3 and 3 to 6 years are being
provided nutrition by these Anganwari Centres. It was also given out that under
these centres 225 Anganwari workers and 225 helpers are serving with
dedication.
On this occasion, a rally was also organized and children presented a cultural
programme.

alive to problems of refugees: Dy CM

redressal of refugees issue priority of Govt: Bhalla
JAMMU,
SEPTEMBER 8 – Reiterating resolve of the government to suitably address demands
of all sections of the society, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand today said
that the present dispensation is fully alive to the problems confronting
refugees of the State and efforts at the highest level have been initiated for
early redressal of the long pending matter.
He said
earlier also during the time of last government headed by Jenab Ghulam Nabi
Azad major strides were taken on the subject but due to abrupt dissolution of
the government no logical conclusion was reached. The matter has now again been
taken up with the central government for early and suitable resolution, he
added.
Mr. Tara
Chand was addressing a deputation of refugees from different areas, who had
called on him at his residence.
Minister
for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Mr. Raman Bhalla was also present on the
occasion.
The
Deputy Chief Minister said landmark initiatives have been taken for settlement
of the migrants of 1947, 1965, 1971 and 1999 and for those living in the border
belts of the state. He said a modern migrant colony has been developed at
Naiwala for border migrants of the area and financial aid for house
construction has also been extended to the migrant families.
Addressing
the gathering, Mr. Raman Bhalla said Government is making all out efforts to
mitigate the issues of 1947, 1965 and 1971 camp and non-camp refugees. He said
they are the eyes, ears and arms of the present Government.
He said
recently a delegation of Congress Ministers headed by PCC President Prof.
Saif-ud-Din Soz had meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA
Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and submitted a memorandum to them for early
redressal of refugees issue.
The
Minister said the Central Government has already released a package of Rs. 49
crore for distribution of land deficiency compensation to 1947 1965 and 1971
refugees. He said Revenue Department has already disbursed Rs. 29 crore out of
Rs. 49 crore package released by the Central Government. He called upon the
left out beneficiaries to approach revenue officers to clear their cases. He
said that the compensation has been distributed in public darbars @ Rs. 1.50 lakh
to each family.
Mr.
Bhalla said Government has regularized various colonies under 254-C Act of
Revenue Department.
District Development
Commissioner Mr. Sanjeev Verma, Additional Commissioner Mr. R. K Bhagat,
besides other senior officers of Revenue and Evacuee Property were present on
the occasion.
Sham asks
private healthcare providers to adhere to set norms
JAMMU,
SEPTEMBER 08- Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr Sham Lal
Sharma today asked the private players in the health sector to strictly adhere
to the norms set by the government.
Addressing
a gathering after inaugurating a clinical diagnostic centre “Atulaya
Healthcare” here today, the Minister said that the government was keen to
provide full cooperation to the private players but in return it
expects complete
adherence to the set norms to ensure that the people get services from private
players at genuine rates.
He said
that government was for major participation of private health institutions to
supplement government efforts in providing best healthcare to the people of the
state.
Describing
health and medical education as the core sectors, Mr Sham said past three years
have witnessed massive expansion and improvement in the health service
delivery. He said
the government has effected substantial increase in the existing incentive
structure to encourage the doctors and para-medics to serve in the remote areas
of the state,. He said that the day was not far away specialized consultancy
would made available at the doorsteps of people even in farflung areas.
The Minister also informed that the super speciality hospital in
Jammu would be made functional soon.
Mr Sham welcomed Atulaya Management for opening its
diagnostic centre in Jammu and hoped that the management would provide best
diagnostic facility to the people of the city.
Among others Director Health Services Jammu, Dr Madhu
Khullar, Drugs Controller, Mr Satish Gupta, Deputy Director (Central), Dr
Baldev Raj Sharma, CMO Jammu, Dr Javid, Atulaya Management members and senior
doctors and prominent citizens were also present on the occasion.
11-day
Comedy Drama Festival to begin from Sept 9
SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 08: An 11-day Comedy Drama Festival ( from
Sep. 9-19) being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Film Makers and Artists
Co-operative Ltd in collaboration with State Information Department and J &
K Academy of Arts, Cultural and Languages will begin here from September 9.
The festival is scheduled to be inaugurated by the Governor Mr.
N.N.Vohra at SKICC at 5 p.m.
The second edition of Comedy Drama Festival will comprise 11
plays depicting the culture heritage of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. The plays
have been written/produced by the prominent writers of Jammu and Kashmir. The
last year’s festival achieved remarkable success wherein various theatre groups
from across the State participated. The effort was highly appreciated by the
local audience and artists.
This year’s event will comprise Kashmiri, Urdu, Dogri and Ladakhi
plays. On the inaugural day, urdu play “Tu Tu Main Main”, written by famous
writer Saadat Hussain Mantoo will be staged.
Mohun
Bagan defeated J&K XI by 4-0
SRINAGAR,
SEPTEMBER 8: The Goodwill Football Match played today between Mohun Bagan
Kolkata and Jammu and Kashmir Football XI at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar. The
match was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and J&K
Football Association.
The Mohun
Bagan Kolkata defeated JK-XI by a margin of 4-0. The visiting team maintained
pressure from the beginning which the JK-XI could not manage to fight back till
last moments of the match.
Minister
for Rural Development, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar, Minister of State for Home, Mr. Nasir
Aslam wani were special
guests on the occasion. Thousands of spectators from across the Valley
witnessed the match and cheered the players of both the teams.
Minister
for Youth Service and Sports, Medical and Technical Education, Mr. R.S. Chib
who was chief guest on the occasion distributed trophy to the wining team and
individual medals to the players of both the teams..
The State
government had made elaborate security arrangements for smooth conduct of the
match in and around the Bakshi stadium.
The
second match of the series will be played at G. G. M. Science College Football
ground, Jammu on September 11, 2012.
Farmers call on Director Agriculture
JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 08 - A
group of 19 farmers representing different districts of Jammu Division, who
participated in the National Convention on Next Frontier of Agriculture
Business & Technology at Mahatma Mandir Gandhinagar, Gujarat, today
called on Director of Agriculture Jammu, Ajay Khajuria and briefed
him about their learning experiences at the Convention.
The
farmers' visit was sponsored by the Directorate of Agriculture Jammu as a part
of outside state visits taken up for the awareness of farmers under the Support
to State Extension Programme for Extension Reforms (ATMA) Scheme. The farmers
disclosed that the visit was of immense benefit to them as they were able
to witness the display and demonstration of best practices in Agriculture
from all states, application of hi-tech and mechanized farming, effective
utilization of I T, productivity enhancement through better technology
etc. The visit also provided them a platform to share existing practices across
the country and internationally.
Director
Agri. Jammu while appreciating the farmers for their proactive endeavor to get
learning during the visit advised them to also take the initiative to implement
what they have learnt in their respective fields and to motivate the
other farmers of their area for the same as the messengers of development in
Agriculture.
Joint
Director Agriculture Extension Dr S S Jamwal asked the farmers to come forward
and get the maximum benefits of the schemes and programmes of the department.

2 Petrol pumps penalized for
short delivery by legal Metrology Dept
JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 08 – A team of officers of Legal
Metrology today inspected petrol pumps in various areas of old Jammu city.
The team found two pumps delivering short to the
consumers by 30 to 40ml against 5 litres and were sealed by inspector Pooja
Kumari.
A sum of Rs 10,000 was imposed on each dealer and
recovered as a composition money. The dealers were directed to get their
dispensing units corrected so that the consumers get exact quantity of product
paid for.
