Remove black films /tinted glass from vehicles before 20^th August: IGP Traffic

            SRINAGAR, AUGUST 08-Inspector General of police Traffic Srinagar has said that complete ban has been imposed by Hon’ble Apex Court for the use of black films / tinted glasses in the vehicles including government vehicles.

            As such people have been requested to remove the same by or before 20^th August, 2012 thereafter any vehicle found with black films/ tinted material will be impounded.

Jora, Nasir receive award from Union Tourism Minister

            SRINAGAR, AUGUST 08: Today’s Traveller Magazine has conferred the prestigious “Best Adventure Destination” in the country award on Jammu & Kashmir State. The award was received by the Minister for Tourism Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora and Minister of State for Tourism, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani from Union Minister for Tourism Mr. Subodh Kant Sahay, at a glittering ceremony here today.

            Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Jora thanked the Today’s Traveller Magazine for honouring the State with the award. “Over the last three years, J&K has made major strides in adventure tourism and created lot of infrastructure to attract tourists to the State,” he said, adding that several incentives have been provided in the new State Tourism Policy.

            In his address, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani said there is great potential in the State for river rafting, mountaineering, trekking, paragliding and heli skiing. “Over the next few years, our State will position itself as a global high-end adventure tourism destination, he added.

Bhalla, Nasir reviews progress of J&K Water and Gas Pipelines acquisition rights User in land

            SRINAGAR, AUGUST 08:  The Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr Raman Bhalla today chaired a high level review meeting to take stock of the progress draft of laying the Jammu and Kashmir Water and Gas Pipelines acquisition of rights of user in land, here today. Minister of State for Revenue; Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani was present on the occasion.

            Commissioner-Secretary, Revenue, Mr. B. A. Rounyal, Financial Commissioner Revenue, Mr. K.B Aggrwal, Commissioner-Secretary Law, Mr. G. H. Tantary, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. Pardeep Gupta, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mr. Asgar Samoon, and representatives of the Gujrat State Petronet Ltd and other concerned officers attended the meeting.

            Earlier, the officials of the company, Gujrat State Petronet Ltd (GSPL) through power point presentation highlighted importance  about laying of the said Rs.880 Crore Gas Pipe line project from Gujrat to Jammu and Kashmir State and its benefits to the  people of the State.

            The meeting was informed that the project has to be completed in 36 months while the survey of the said project has already been completed.

            The meeting was also informed that by completion of this project it will not only bring cheers on the faces of the people of Jammu and Kashmir particularly the people of valley who due to chilly winter season and   the closure of lone road link  J &K National Highway  during the winter months  due to heavy snow fall and  torrential rain falls, face a lot of difficulties. 

            The meeting was further told that the said   project will provide Gas connectivity to Kathua, Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, Ramban, Anantnag and Srinagar. It was also said that the Natural Gas pipeline will attract investments in the vicinity of the pipeline which will help in the overall economic growth of the State. The gas connectivity will also help in developing of our Industries, which in turn create job opportunities for the local people. This will also help to develop CNG corridors along Railway, National Highways that would fuel economic growth of the State. The project will also be a great boost for power sector, transport and household which ultimately have a huge impact on the State’s economy.

DRSC meets, discusses functioning of  various deptts

            The Departmental Related Standing Committee (DRSC) of legislative council which met today under the Chairmanship of MLC Ravinder Kumar Sharma reviewed the functioning of Information Technology, Science and Technology and Hospitality and Protocol Departments.  While reviewing the functioning of Information Technology Department, it was observed that Information Technology is the vital tool to make governance efficient and transparent.  The Commissioner Secretary, Information Technology Department, Mr. Bipul Pathek gave a detailed resume of functioning of the Information Technology Department.  He spelt out various initiatives taken by the Department in e-governance. The Chairman and other members of the committee underscored the need to link the Information Technology with the services that impact the public at large.  It was indicated that the Information Technology could be used as a tool to disseminate the information in various sectors of the Government. 

            Mr. Bashir Ahmad Magray, Syed Nizam-ud-Din Khatana, Syed Mohammad Rafi Shah and Sardar Dharam Vir Singh Oberoi, members of the committee were also present.

            The committee also discussed the functioning of Science and Technology Department.   The members suggested various measures which could be taken for improving functioning of the department. The members sought the details about distribution of solar lights to the people of far-flung areas and Gujjar Bakerwal bastis from the concerned and the criteria adopted for the distribution.  It was suggested that the legislators should be kept informed about the distribution process so that transparency is ensured in the system.   The committee underscored the need to rationalise the distribution of the solar energy tools to the most deserving population.

            The committee was briefed about the various projects launched by the department which include remote village electrification programme.  Distribution of solar lights and providing solar power plants to hospital, bio-gas and solar cookers to the villagers.

            The committee  suggested that infrastructure with the Hospitality & Protocol Department needs be augmented so that legislators and government officials do not face any difficulty in getting accommodation both at Srinagar and Jammu.  The committee also said that government must create additional accommodation at Delhi and Chandigarh particularly for terminally sick patients who visit these places for treatment of diseases like cancer.  The committee felt that the proper accommodation of patients in such places could mitigate their suffering to a large extent.  The committee also felt that state government needs to make concerted efforts to protect its property outside the state.

            While responding to news report regarding the death of fish in Nigeen lake the committee expressed its concern over the death of fish in large number.   The committee decided to obtain report from Fisheries Department.   Among others, Commissioner Secretary, Information Technology, Mr. Bipul Pathek, Director Information, Mr. Zaffar Ahmad, Secretary, Legislative Council, Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Special Secretary, Hospitality and Protocol, Sufi Mohammad Yousuf,, Deputy Secretary, Legislative Council, Mr. Mohammad Maqbool Bhat and senior officers of Council Secretariat and other departments were present in the meeting.

Various deputations call on Gul, apprised him about problems

SRINAGAR, August 08: Several deputations from various far-flung areas of the Valley today called on the Advisor to Chief Minister Mr. Mubarak Gul and apprised him about their problems.

The deputation from Beerwa, Shangus, Ganderbal apprised him about the problems related to road connectivity, health, education, shortage of water, proper supply of electricity in the area. They demanded for speeding up the pace of execution of development works in these areas.

Mr. Gul gave patient hearing to the deputationists and said that he will take up the issues with the appropriate authorities for immediate redressal. He  said that coalition government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah was serious to address the genuine problems of the public on priority and administration has been geared up to attend these problems.

            SRINAGAR, AUGUST 08:  According to Additional District Magistrate, Bandipora, Mr. Tariq Ahmad Zargar who has been appointed as enquiry officer for the killing of one Hilal Ahmad Dar S/o Ghulam Mohiudin Dar R/o Aloosa Bandipora on July 25, 2012 at Aloosa Bandipora, those persons who have any knowledge about the incident and are willing to record their statements shall record their statement in his office chambers on August 22 and August 23, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Postponement of NRHM interview of August 09

            SRINAGAR, AUGUST 08:  As per the instruction of District Development Commissioner, Shopian, the interview under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) which was scheduled to be held on August 09, 2012 is postponed and will now be held on August 13, 2012.

State level U/17 football boys’ championship organized by YSS

                SRINAGAR, AUGUST 08:  State Level U/17 Football Boys kick of today at three different venues of Srinagar. As many as 17 districts of J&K are participating in the championship. The championship is organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports.

            The results of day 1st are as Srinagar defeated Ramban by 8-0. Syed Amir Nayeed of Srinagar score 4 goals Kupwara v/s Poonch ended in a draw. Budgam defeated Kishtwar by 3-0. Ubair Fayaz of Budgam scored 2 goals. Pulwama defeated Rajouri by 3-0. Mohammad Gous of Pulwama scored 2 goals. Baramulla defeated Udhampur 4-0. Fazan Zahoor of Baramulla scored 3 goals. Ganderbal defeated Anantnag 2-1.

Direct Hajj Flights from Srinagar, taken up with concerned: Aijaz khan

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 08- The Government has already taken the matter with the Union Government for the provision of Direct Flights of Hajj from Srinagar to Jeddah.

The Information was given at a high level meeting chaired by the Minister for Hajj and Auqaf Mr. Aijaz Ahmed Khan here today. Commissioner Secretary Revenue, Director Airports, Members of Hajj Committee, senior officers, tour operators in whose favour the quota has been released were also present.

The Minister said that the matter of direct Hajj Flights for the convenience of the pilgrims from the State to perform their religious duties has already being taken besides the issue of cancellation of Hajj seats has also been taken up with the concerned authorities so that more and more people get the chance to perform Hajj.

Mr. Khan said that for the convenience of the pilgrims, additional infrastructure would be constructed in the Hajj House which would include additional washrooms and purchase of beds and bedding for them. He also said that the installation of lift system in the residential block of Hajj House and other related works would also be expedited.

The Meeting was told that 21832 applications have been received till date from the persons desirous of performing the Hajj Pilgrimage and 8166 seats have been allotted till date.

Recommendation of Cabinet Sub-Committee headed by FM yet to be submitted to Cabinet: Govt

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 08: According to official spokesman, the recommendations of the Working Group-V headed by Justice S. Saghir regarding strengthening relations between State and the Centre were submitted to the Chief Minister on 18.12.2009, subsequently a Cabinet constituted a Cabinet Sub Committee headed by Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs with a view to formulating response/ comments of State Government for further consideration and approval of Cabinet.

The Cabinet Sub- Committee constituted by the Cabinet comprises Minister for Rural Development, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Minister for Tourism and Culture, Minister for Industries and Commerce, Minister for Health and Floriculture, Minister for Consumers Affairs & Public Distribution and Transport and Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation as its members.

Refuting the news item carried by a section of press today that the Cabinet Sub-Committee has submitted its recommendations to the Cabinet, the official spokesman clarified that actually the Cabinet Sub-Committee held series of meeting under the chairmanship of Finance Minister on January 28, 2011, June 1, 2011, August 8, 2011, December 27, 2011, February 17, 2012, March 27, 2012 and June 14, 2012, adding that the Cabinet Sub Committee, however, has not yet submitted its recommendations to the Cabinet.

J&K HC organizes oath taking, licenses distribution ceremony for new entrants of legal profession

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 08-In a simple but impressive function, Jammu and Kashmir State Judicial Academy, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir under the guidance and instructions of Chief Justice of J&K High Court and Chief Patron,  State Judicial Academy Justice M. M. Kumar and Judge Incharge, State Judicial Academy Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir, today held oath taking ceremony and distribution of Advocates’ license in the High Court complex, Srinagar for the new entrants to the legal profession.

The function was presided over by Judge Incharge, State Judicial Academy Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir. Before delivery of enrolment certificates (Advocate license) to the 14 Advocates of Kashmir Province, they were administered oath by Director, State Judicial Academy Mr. Abdul Wahid.

This is for the first time in the history of High Court of Jammu and Kashmir that under the directions of the Chief Justice of J&K High Court and Judge Incharge, State Judicial Academy such a function of oath taking ceremony and distribution of enrolment certificates has been organized for the new entrants to the legal profession.

In his address, Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir congratulated the newly enrolled advocates and welcomed them to the fraternity of legal profession. He enlightened them on the professional ethics and conduct. He told the newly enrolled advocates that they must know that Advocacy is the process of standing alongside an individual who feels to have been disadvantaged and speaking out on his behalf in a way that renders the fullest assistance to the Court to reach at a just conclusion in the case and at the same time, represents the interest of his client.

            Justice Mansoor said that life of an Advocate appears to others to be very cut and dry. One popular image of a lawyer is someone very learned in the text of law who spends time immersed in ancient books searching for arcane points of law emerging only to win in the Court room by outwitting the opponent. I am sure, young friends, you have been drawn to the legal profession in the hope of earning a decent living and gaining enviable social status. You must genuinely have love for law. I may tell you, it is a wonderful life. You must know, legal profession has pleasure and thrill of its own. It invites challenges it makes you proud to be the best friends of the society you live in.

            Justice Mansoor told that an Advocate is not a free man to do whatever he likes after obtaining license to practice. There are certain duties and responsibilities cast upon  him by the status as to the manner in which he should conduct himself as a professional, His conduct, discipline, rights and duties are regulated by a Statue known as Advocates Act, 1961 and the Rules framed there under. I am sure, as students of law you must have already gone a glimpse of your rights and duties.

            In his concluding remarks, Director, State Judicial Academy Mr. Abdul Wahid said that the advices, words of wisdom and suggestions would go a long way in making the enrolled advocates a very good professional lawyer. He said that henceforth such functions under the directions of the Chief Justice would be regular feature where newly enrolled Advocates will be delivered Advocates’ license after administration of oath.

Gutlibagh women delivered her child in a vehicle after doctors advice her to go  home

Ganderbal:A young women Amreen 21 of  Central Kashmir Gutlibagh Ganderbal had gone for routine checkup to the Dist.Hospital Ganderbal along with her husband Ghulam Ahmad and relatives this morning “The doctors did her checkup and told us to go home”said Gh.Ahmad husband of Amreen

      He said adding “ his wife had been taking consultation from the doctors at the Dist.Hospital since past two months.we hired a TATA SUMO from near by sumo stand and move to words our home during way Amreen developed labour pains near Chaper Gund 4km from dist.hospital .we looked at her in the meantime she delivered a boy.” After this Amreen was quickly rushed back to hospital were doctors have already checkup her early.

 Chief Medical Officer Ganderbal Dildar Ahmad Khan told  Kashmir Examiner that “Amreen had visited Hospital 3AM after checkup Doctors at hospital told her to go home and they have already provided ambulance to her,she developed labour pains at home near about 8:30 AM after that she was rushed back to Hospital by her family members and relatives.”

Dr.Mehmooda Kar (BMO Ganderbal) while conforming the incident told Kashmir Examiner they were investigating the case, “Let us see what comes out from the investigation,we will act against the gynecologist,”she said

Law to take its course: IGP Kashmir.

Police arrests two accused hunt on for other accused

Srinagar, August 08: Law will take its own course in booking the culprits involved in the murder of Shabir Ahmad Bhat at Sendhbal Ganderbal, this was stated by Inspector General of Police, Mr. S.M.Sahai.

The IGP added that after registering the case FIR No 24/1012, Police has so far arrested two persons involved in the murder while the hunt in on for arrest of the main accused who has been identified. Police is investigating the case vigorously and have raided a number of places. The raids have been successful and two accused persons Ali Mohammad Sheikh son Assadullah and Mohammad Subhan Wani son of Ali Mohammad have been arrested. The latter is the Sarpanch of Sendhbal. It may be recalled that  Shabir Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat was  killed in a group clash at the local Masjid at Sendhbal on August 6^th .

        The IGP said that besides expediting the investigation of the murder, police will continue to take all necessary measures for maintaining calm in the area.

Asks New Delhi to shun habit of imposing leaders on Kashmir

‘Extension of central laws has no constitutional validity’

Srinagar, Aug. 08 (VOS) : Asking New Delhi to shun its attitude of ‘ installing’ leadership as per its convenience in J&K, CP(I)M State secretary Mohammad Yousf Tarigami has said dislodging Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on Aug. 09, 1953 was  aimed to “merge the state completely with the union of India”, against the terms of instrument of accession.

“Barring the tribal raid and the division of the erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir State, the episode of August 09, 1953 was not only one of the most tragic events in the history of J&K but had also such far reaching consequences that its ghost continues to haunt, not only J&K but the entire sub continent”, Tarigami told VOS on Wednesday.

“I feel that the episode of August 9 occurred as a result of acute struggle and tussle between Kashmir’s aspiration to maintain its distinct identity and centre’s hegemonic passion for complete merger of the State with the Union. It was against the spirit of the Instrument of Accession as the instrument itself was the product of history and special geopolitical position of the State”, added Tarigami.

He, however, said there might have been some dissent and controversies in regard to the centre-state relations and the broader political arrangement between New Delhi and Srinagar but according to Tarigami the dissent had to be accommodated and the options, other than the one chosen, looked for.

“It was certainly lack of political acumen and complete disregard for the democratic rights of the people that a duly elected government was dislodged on flimsy grounds which amounted to conspiracy.”

Tarigami told VOS that there were people who subscribe to the view that controversies were there even in 1947. “The centre rather than resolving these controversies exhibited lack of foresight by dismissing the popular government and arresting the “tallest leader “of the state”, asserted MLA Kulgam.

Accusing New Delhi of attempting to dilute the sovereignty of the state, Tarigami said, “

“The end of autocracy ushered in thorough land reforms and debt relief, which helped the people to come out of abject poverty. It also granted sovereignty to the people of the State in all the internal matters as defined in the instrument of Accession. The achievement of sovereignty was the result of a long struggle and political process. As a mark of sovereignty the J&K got a distinct constituent assembly to draft its own constitution with in the union of India and decide its future course.” He however was quick to add,

“I believe that no authority except the constituent assembly could and should change the relationship that was established between the state and the centre in 1947. “

Demanding the complete restoration of article 370, and revisiting Centre-state relationship, Tarigami said, “The erosion of article 370 and the extension of central laws to the state has no constitutional validity. The tragic and short sighted action of 09 August 1953 is a glaring example of eroding democratic norms and constitutional sanctity.”

“I am of the firm opinion that unless we draw concrete lessons from the political bungling of 09 August, we cannot make headway in resolving the Kashmir issue and rid the state of the uncertainly, instability and confusion”, asserted Tarigami.

Coming down heavily on New Delhi for what he called imposing leaders on the people in J&K, Tarigami said,” Centre will have to shun the attitude which warns that any attempt to challenge New Delhi’s hegemonic approach will amount to political suicide. New Delhi should shed forever, its habit of sending out the same messages that only those who agree to play its henchmen in Kashmir will be allowed an effective political role.” He added that Fundamental democratic rights cannot be denied and “we should not be afraid of people’s genuine aspirations. We will have to carry people with us and not to ride them. We have to listen to them, talk to them; engage them allow them to protest, accept the political dissent and accommodate the different viewpoints.”

He demanded that there should be a consistent and positive effort to create genuine federal relationship between different regions and sub regions of the state. “The spirit of “autonomy or self rule” should be to empower the common people at the grass roots level and not those who are already in the power corridors. The final aim of the political process should be to provide people economically better, socially healthy and politically a dignified life.”

“The broader democratization, devolution of powers and dialogue within, should go in tandem with the establishment of cordial relationship among the various countries of the sub-continent. It is necessary for offering effective resistance to the imperialist designs of hegemony, exploitation, and its age old habit of fishing in the troubled waters. We cannot afford to overlook the imperialist tendencies and as such should realize that the amicable resolution of the Kashmir issue to the satisfaction of all the concerned, and putting an end to the alienation in Kashmir is a must.” Tarigami added.

 Quoting A.G Noorani’s lines “The boulder that was thoughtlessly let loose from the top of a hill on 09 August 1953, wrecked havoc and continues to roll”, Tarigami said that there must be full restoration of the article 370 and New Delhi should give up the business of Ministry making in Srinagar”.  

Replying to a question that there were speculations that even Left was also instrumental in dethroning Abdullah in 1953, Traigami said, “There may be some truth in it and the fact remains that whosoever played a role in this undemocratic and anti people conspiracy did undoubtedly a great wrong to the common people, the state and the country at large.” (VOS)

Ganai promoted as Addl. Secy MHA

Srinagar, Aug. 08 (VOS): Senior bureaucrat and former Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai has been promoted and posted as Additional Secretary Ministry of Home Affairs Government of India. He was earlier posted as Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Ministry of Home affairs after being relieved by the state government.

Ganai an IAS officer of 1982 batch has held many important positions in the state government including Divisional Commissioner Kashmir. (VOS)

GoI will make the nation pay a heavy price: KC

‘Ignoring the seething anger underneath the surface calm’

Srinagar, Aug. 08 (VOS): Castigating the government of India for ignoring growing anger in Kashmir, the Kashmir Committee headed by noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani has asked GoI to engage with people for a lasting solution of the issue.

“We are of the view that the Government of India will make the nation pay a heavy price for ignoring the seething anger underneath the surfacecalm. The situation demands consistent engagement with the people and leaders of Kashmir and a pro active peace process with Pakistan in order to find a peaceful, democratic and enduring solution to the Kashmir problem”, said the Kashmir Committees Madhu Kishwar in a statement to VOS. 

However the Kashmir Committee has distanced itself from the reports that it was trying to find a compromise formula on Kashmir.

“On behalf of Kashmir committee i would like to clarify that our recent visit to Srinagar and our meetings with various political leaders was not aimed at proposing any "compromise formula" to any of the leaders. Nor is that our mandate. Neither any body in the government nor have any of the political leaders have authorized us to work out a "compromise formula" “, added the social activist.

She said the primary purpose of their Kashmir visit was for Jethmalani to do a site inspection of the area from which the police claimed to have arrested Mohammad Ghulam Bhatt, whose case is being argued by Jethmalani in Patiala House court.
The Kashmir Committee has castigated government for its lawless actions of putting prominent leaders under house arrest without any formal warrants or due process.

“We also received complaints regarding arbitrary denial of passports to Kashmiri citizens by the Home Ministry. “, She said.

She said the committee was of the view that such needless and arbitrary actions and restrictions add to the frustration, anger and a sense of humiliation of the people of Kashmir.

She said the committee had fruitful discussions with various groups in Kashmir. “We had extremely fruitful discussions with leaders of the Geelani group of the Hurriyat as well as with Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Shabir Shah, Nayeem Khan and others.... and a civil society group led by Hamida Nayeem”, she said.

“We were particularly happy to learn from a delegation of Kashmiri Pandits that Hurriyat leaders, notably Syed Ali Shah Geelani had not only assured them of support in returning to their homes in the Valley but also extended protection to families which have already returned. Kashmiri Pandits expressed their unhappiness and anguish at the indifference and callousness of the state government towards the destruction and vandalization of Hindu temples”, Kishwar said.

She said the Kashmir committee shares the anguish of the people of Kashmir against the Government of India's complacent attitude towards the problems and aspirations of Kashmiri people. “We also share their disappointment with the national media for paying attention to Kashmir only when anger spills out on the streets. We also agree with them that the national media presents a very prejudiced, ill informed and partisan view of the issues and problems raised by Kashmiris”, she added.

Most leaders expressed deep concern at the radicalization and increasing frustration among Kashmiri youth due to the insensitivity of both the state as well as the central government, she said. (VOS)

Srinagar, Aug 08 (VOS):  Amid raging debate on need for economic self reliance of the state and its linking up with the political settlement of Kashmir, various separatist leaders have given a mixed reaction to the proposal..

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik has said that though the idea of ‘ economic self reliance’ is a good one, however, the separatist leadership can not afford to join heads with the mainstream politicians as they (mainstream leaders) are responsible for ‘murder’ f Kashmir’s.

“We cant sit with the people who are responsible for the killing of our children”, Malik told VOS on Wednesday, adding that the mainstream politicians not only strengthened the draconian laws here but also were instrumental in extending ‘unlimited’ powers to army.

Meanwhile Democratic freedom party president Shabir Ahmad Shah and his close aide Nayeem Ahmad Khan, while rejecting the idea said that they (Mainstream) politicians have no moral authority to talk about any kind of independence to Kashmir’s. “It is the separatist leadership who has got the right to think of the betterment of the people”, Shah told VOS, adding that mainstream politicians had not only brought havoc to Kashmir but were also responsible for looting the natural resources. He said that the pro-India politicians subjected people to various atrocities.

In the meantime Nayeem Ahmad Khan while out rightly rejecting the idea said, “We are seeking a complete freedom and economic self reliance will come on its own”.

Khan while castigating the pro-indian politicians said that they are befooling people by such sloganeering. (VOS)

PL calls for strike on August 11

Srinagar, Aug. 08 (VOS): Jammu and Kashmir people’s league has called for a one day strike on 11th Aug. to observe the 4th death anniversary of its former chairman Sheikh Abdul Aziz.

Extending his condolences at his ancestral home at Mahraj Gunj, where he lived in extra ordinary circumstances, Mirwaiz said that Baboo  was an ‘extraordinary person’ who achieved name as well as fame in trading fraternity of Kashmir.

PDP condemns mosque murder, warns against protecting perpetrators

Srinagar, Aug. 08 (VOS): Cautioning the government against pressurizing police to protect the perpretators of murder in a mosque in Sindhbal Ganderbal PDP today said the government was desperate to deny justice in this case as well inview of the involvement of the NC in it.

In a statement issued here today a party spokesman said the cold blooded murder of Shabir Ahmed Bhat by the NC goons led by its Sarpanch has sent shock waves through out the state and has once again exposed the ruling party’s inhuman face. He said it was unfortunate that the NC, to coverup its genetic behavior of intolerance and rowdyism was trying to dub the incident as sectarian. “Even if the NC spin to the tragic incident is true, isn’t that party participating in it as a political organization” the spokesman said.

The spokesman said it was not just that the NC had tried once again to disturb the peaceful social fabric of Kashmir but it had in the process undermined the institution of Panchayat as well. The panchayat members owing allegiance to this party have set a trend of taking law into their hands and dispensing “ justice” in most barbaric and cruel ways.  He said this incident comes close on the heels of the criminal behavior of another sarpanch belonging to the party from Branwar in Chrarisharief constituency. He said the sarpanch nicknamed “Dabang” along with his family members and pary workers committed worst atrocities on a poorman and his family for daring to ask for information under the Right to Information Act. The exposure of the NC and its workers who got elected to panchayat mostly through strong arm methods has gone unnoticed and unpunished as the police is under pressure to provide them protection.

 The spokesman said NC after having lost credibility among the people and acceptance among the voters was becoming increasingly facist in its methods. The incident at Ganderbal represents the lowest point in its desperation to stay under public focus even at the cost of human lives and through criminal activities.

The spokesman said it was some satisfaction that the murder in the mosque at Sindhbal had evoked  universal condemnation and the attempts by the NC to stook divisive sentiments had failed once again. The spokesman said the party leadership Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti are extremely pained by the loss of another youngman’s life. He said the party expressed condemnation of the act and stands by the bereaved family at this hour of grave tragedy.

Others who have condemned the incident and expressed their solidarity with the bereaved family include Senior party leader Muzaffar Hussain Beig, General Secretary Mohammed Dilawar Mir, Tariq Hameed Karra , Qazi Mohammed Afzal and Mohd Ashraf Mir.

Jora, Nasir receive award from Union Tourism Minister

Srinagar, Aug. 08 (VOS): Today’s Traveller Magazine has conferred the prestigious “Best Adventure Destination” in the country award on Jammu & Kashmir State. The award was received by the Minister for Tourism Nawang Rigzin Jora and Minister of State for Tourism, Nasir Aslam Wani from Union Minister for Tourism Mr. Subodh Kant Sahay, at a glittering ceremony here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Jora thanked the Today’s Traveller Magazine for honouring the State with the award. “Over the last three years, J&K has made major strides in adventure tourism and created lot of infrastructure to attract tourists to the State,” he said, adding that several incentives have been provided in the new State Tourism Policy.

In his address, Nasir Aslam Wani said there is great potential in the State for river rafting, mountaineering, trekking, paragliding and heli skiing. “Over the next few years, our State will position itself as a global high-end adventure tourism destination, he added.

Bhalla, Nasir reviews progress of J&K Water and Gas Pipelines acquisition rights User in land

Jammu, Aug. 08 (VOS): The Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr Raman Bhalla today chaired a high level review meeting to take stock of the progress draft of laying the Jammu and Kashmir Water and Gas Pipelines acquisition of rights of user in land, here today.  Minister of State for Revenue; Nasir Aslam Wani was present on the occasion.

Commissioner-Secretary, Revenue, B. A. Rounyal, Financial Commissioner Revenue, K.B Aggrwal, Commissioner-Secretary Law, G. H. Tantary, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pardeep Gupta, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mr. Asgar Samoon, and representatives of the Gujrat State Petronet Ltd and other concerned officers attended the meeting.

Earlier, the officials of the company, Gujrat State Petronet Ltd (GSPL) through power point presentation highlighted importance  about laying of the said Rs.880 Crore Gas Pipe line project from Gujrat to Jammu and Kashmir State and its benefits to the  people of the State.

The meeting was informed that the project has to be completed in 36 months while the survey of the said project has already been completed.

The meeting was also informed that by completion of this project it will not only bring cheers on the faces of the people of Jammu and Kashmir particularly the people of valley who due to chilly winter season and   the closure of lone road link  J &K National Highway  during the winter months  due to heavy snow fall and  torrential rain falls, face a lot of difficulties. 

The meeting was further told that the said   project will provide Gas connectivity to Kathua, Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, Ramban, Anantnag and Srinagar. It was also said that the Natural Gas pipeline will attract investments in the vicinity of the pipeline which will help in the overall economic growth of the State. The gas connectivity will also help in developing of our Industries, which in turn create job opportunities for the local people. This will also help to develop CNG corridors along Railway, National Highways that would fuel economic growth of the State. The project will also be a great boost for power sector, transport and household which ultimately have a huge impact on the State’s economy.

NC Hits at Jehthmalani, Mufti

Srinagar, Aug. 08 (VOS): The National Conference today hit at BJP MP Ram Jethmalani calling him a broker between Mufti and Separatist while reiterating that PDP and BJP are the two faces of the same coin

“The Mask of credibility of Jethmalani has slipped and it is now clear that his mission is to drum up support for Mufti” said NC Spokesman Tanvir Sadiq

“Now it is proven beyond doubt that this BJP MP has no love for the Kashmiri people or their cause, he is here for the furtherance of their agenda to abolish article 370 with the help of Mufti” added Sadiq  

The NC Spokesman said that our Additional General Secretary Dr.Mustafa Kamal stands vindicated when he says that Mufti and PDP is the creation of BJP, RSS and other communal forces.

“The fact that a BJP MP has come all the way from Delhi to garner support for the PDP shows where their loyalties lay and how anti-Kashmiri the PDP, BJP and now their new found friends are” said Tanvir

“These unfolding of events exposes Mufti’s desperation in the face of the government’s continued success at all fronts that he has to get a BJP MP and other people to lobby for support from the APHC” said Tanvir while reacting to the news item in a local daily

“These events and the recent Pakistani flag show how desperate and worried he is” he added.

The NC spokesman hit at the separatist camp terming it shameful to interact with a broker like Ram Jethlmalani’s whose sole aim is to get Mufti on the power saddle and his appeal to them shows his hidden agenda.  

“The people have a right to know that was all the sacrifices till now only to strike a deal between Mufti and APHC by a BJP MP to get him to power, Their discreet silence is proving as such” Tanvir remarked  

“The separatist and the so called proponents of Azadi should come clean on the reported deal between them and Mufti ” asked Tanvir

“We demand that all the people who have met BJP MP and others who according to news reports have come here to strike a deal between the APHC and PDP should come clean on this and let the people know if they have sold their conscience” he asked
