NC committed to autonomy, revocation of AFSPA
Congress trying to weaken NC; steal a march in elections
Jammu, Aug 18 (VOS): Senior leader and Additional General Secretary of National Conference, Dr Mustafa Kamaal has said his party is committed to friendship and peace between India and Pakistan. He said the party was committed to restoration of Autonomy of the state within the Indian union as it stood in 1953 including complete, immediate revocation of AFSPA.
“There is no substitute for peace which is basic requirement for progress and prosperity”, he added
He was speaking during a Public meeting of National Conference supporters and office bearers at Mera Madrian in Akhnoor to falicitate Former Minister Pandit Govind Ram Sharma.
Reacting to the local anger on being ignored by the administration Dr. Kamaal said that congress dispensation in the coalition government was deliberately targeting National Conference cadre hoping to weaken National Conference and steal a march on National Conference in the coming election.
Dr. Kamaal said that this attitude will be a counter productive and boomerang on them. He advised them not to forget that“ Raj Dharam ” binds them to serving people in a fare and just manner and this must not only be done but should seem to be done as governments keep going and coming . Congress party should leave nothing bitter or adverse for future to give a chance to the new government to adopt a “pay back attitude” politics creates strange bed follows.
Kamaal along with his Personal Relation officer Mohd. Farooq Mughal offered “ Jumatul Vida” prayers in the Jamia Masjid Akhnoor in a congregation of locals and prayed for peace and tranquility in J&K state , the country and the region and an end to hostility around the world.

Kashmir civil society concerned over Amarnath construction plan
Srinagar, Aug 18 (VOS):
Civil society groups of Kashmir have expressed serious concern over the recent Supreme Court directions to the J&K government for undertaking civil works leading to construction of roads and
other infrastructure in and around the Amarnath cave shrine in the valley of Kashmir.
Pertinently, the committee formed by the Hon'ble Supreme Court for recommending ways and means to promote safe journey of pilgrims to the cave
shrine is yet to submit its report
At a joint meeting of various civil society groups held the other day at Srinagar, said they share government’s concern to ensure good health and well-being of the intending pilgrims, and believe that the yatra must be conducted in accordance with the National Environment Policy, the State Forest Policy and also the Nitish Sengupta Committee recommendations.
”We believe any increased human activity through large scale construction works will greatly enhance pollution, pose serious challenges to public health and result in irreversible damage to the flora and fauna of the area, critical to tourism and agriculture of the region”, the activists resolved.
“It must be noted that the area through which the current tracks lead to the Amarnath cave in the Sonamarg area fall under the Thajiwas Wildlife Sanctuary, and as such any construction activity will be in contravention of the
established laws”, read the resolution passed on the occasion.
Rejecting efforts of certain elements for politicization of the issue, the civil society groups underlined the need for conserving the pristine waters of the Lidder, the Sindh, the Jhelum rivers and their tributaries. “It must be a common goal, irrespective of religious beliefs, political affiliation or any worldview one might subscribe to”, they said.
The activists warned that politicization of the pilgrimage could be fraught with serious consequences.
They appreciated GoI for declaring the 135-km stretch of the Ganga between
Gaumukh and Uttarkashi as an eco-sensitive zone in November, 2010, and demanded that the same principles be applied for the conservation of the area surrounding the Amarnath shrine in Kashmir and no human activity be undertaken there in a manner that will irreversibly damage the fragile ecology of the area.
The group asked the the Central Empowered Committee on Forests and Environment and the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Environment to initiate steps that the national environment and forest policies be implemented in letter and spirit and the plans of large scale construction around the Amarnath
cave shrine be subjected to legal scrutiny in the light of the established laws and policies.
Supporting the administrative measures to ensure good health and well-being of the pilgrims undertaking the pilgrimage to Amarnath shrine, the activists resolved that construction of roads and cable cars will not help in preventing deaths because of the inherent health risks in high altitude travel.
“It is a medically established fact that gradual acclimatization is needed for ascent from 5000 feet to 14,000 feet for any human being, including pilgrims. Acute Mountain Sickness, High Altitude Cerebral Edema( HACE)  and High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) can happen in otherwise healthy people as well if the basic principles of  acclimatization  are not adhered to”, the resolution read
They said these clinical conditions contribute substantially to high mortality encountered during the yatra.
The group also recommended authentic medical clearance for the intending pilgrims on the pattern of the Kailash-Mansarovar yatra where pilgrims above 70 years are not allowed to undertake the yatra and pilgrims are to produce genuine medical certificates certifying their health status..
