2 paediatric hospitals already sanctioned for state:
Azad
‘Money, land available for last two years’
He also also said that health
being a state subject; it is the state government which is responsible for the
problems at the G.B Pant hospital.
“Health is a state subject.
It is the state government and not the central government which is responsible
for health care issues”, Azad said
Azad also criticized the
state government for failing to build paediatric hospitals despite the
availability to resources needed for the same. “While I was the Chief Minister
of the state, we had allocated 100 kanals of land for construction of Haj house
and a hospital in Srinagar, while 30 kanals have been utilized for Haj House
but the state government has not been able to build a hospital there”, he
remarked.
He also said that although
National Rural Helath Mission is a scheme for rural areas, he through his
personal efforts he had sanctioned an amount of 60 crore for construction of
two paediatric hospitals in the state but nothing has been done for setting up
the hospitals during last two years. “We have sanctioned an amout of 60 crore
for the two hospitals for Jammu and Srinagar . Land is available,
money is available for last two years, and what else can I do”, he asked adding
that it is the state government which is responsible for build these hospitals
and no him.
Nothing wrong between us: Soz
Congress, NC responsible for not empowering Panchayats:
Azad
He also urged the coalition
government to hold elections for municipalities and municipal corporations at
the earliest in order to avail many schemes and funds from the central
government.
Referring to factionalism in
the state congress when media persons asked why the two leaders (Soz and Azad)
as to why they did not share stage or hold such conferences in the past, the
two called it a mere coincidence.
“There may have been
differences of opinion which have been blown out of proportion, apart from that
me and Azad sahib share very good relations”, said Soz adding the fact that he
did not speak even a word against Azad was proof enough for people to believe
him. “Presence of Azad Sahab is a proof that everything is fine between us”,
remarked Soz
Upon questions by insistent
media persons Azad said that not sharing stage with Soz and holding separate
meetings was a coincidence. “It happens in every state of the country. Congress
General Secretaries and state chiefs hold separate election meetings and most
of the times they don’t hold them jointly”, said Azad.

2012 International AIDS Candlelight Memorial organized by
Peoples Social and Cultural Society (PSCS), Srinagar in collaboration with
J&K State AIDS Control Society (JKSACS) for promoting the health and
dignity of people living with and affected by HIV
Around 100,000
people worldwide today commemorated the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial
to remember those who have lost their lives to AIDS and to support those living
with HIV and affected by its impact. Supported by community, business and
religious leaders in 500 town and villages in 115 countries, Memorial
participants called for greater action from all actors in the HIV response.
“The International
AIDS Candlelight Memorial is a vivid reminder of our continuous battle against
a very deadly disease,” says Rafi Razaqi, Candlelight Memorial Coordinator in
Kashmir and chairman, People’s Social and Cultural Society (PSCS), Srinagar,
Kashmir. “Remembering the friends and loved ones we lost to AIDS is essential
in this time of dwindling funds and ever changing global health and development
priorities that threaten the advances we have made to stop AIDS and reverse the
spread of HIV and other closely associated diseases especially TB."
According to the
most recent UNAIDS statistics, around 34 million people are living with HIV
globally. Increasing access to HIV treatment has aided efforts to stabilize the
epidemic, but still every year 1.8 million people die of AIDS related diseases,
while some 2.7 million new people become infected. Annually at least 390,000
children are born with HIV, something which is wholly preventable with current
medical knowledge.
People
participating in this year’s International AIDS Candlelight Memorial called for
governments and international agencies to ensure more people have access to
better health services and HIV treatment. Also Memorial participants demanded
local and national governments to do more to support the human rights of people
living with HIV and no longer tolerate stigma and discrimination.
According to
Candlelight Memorial participants the HIV response will only be successful when
it is an effort that is supported by and addresses the needs of all those
affected by HIV, including all people living with HIV.
Fajr satellite launch shows Iran scientific
prowess: Defense minister
Iran's Defense Minister
says the imminent launch of the Fajr (Dawn) satellite into the orbit proves
Iran's high scientific power and its determination to continue its development
programs.
Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said the satellite will be launched in late May, most probably on May 23.
“The Islamic Republic is making good progress despite all pressures and sanctions and if hegemonic powers think that they can put pressure on Iran via sanctions, they are in fact squandering their own opportunities,” he added.
The minister said measures taken by some Western countries cannot deprive Iran of its growth and development opportunities.
“The pace of the country’s growth and development has increased and launching satellites in short intervals indicates Iran's [high] scientific capability,” he said.
Vahidi said the fact that Iran launches satellites using its own satellite carriers proves that exerting pressure on the country has been futile.
On May 13, Vahidi announced Iran would soon launch its indigenous Fajr satellite, which is a reconnaissance satellite powered by solar energy.
Fajr satellite will reportedly be placed in elliptical orbit of 400 km in radius, and will remain in space for a year and a half.
Iran launched its first indigenous satellite, Omid (Hope) in 2009. The country also sent its first biocapsule of living creatures into space in February 2010, using the indigenous Kavoshgar-3 (Explorer-3) carrier.
Iran is one of the 24 founding members of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, which was set up in 1959.
Tehran also plans to launch its first manned mission to space by 2019.
Press TV signals jammed on Hotbird
The broadcast of Iran's
24-hour English-language news channel, Press TV, on the Hotbird satellite provider
has been interrupted.
Interruption of the broadcast of Press TV programs on Hotbird satellite on frequency 12437 MHz began at 11:00 GMT on Saturday and is still ongoing.
Press TV has learned that the cause of the interruption is the presence of a clean carrier on the IRIB package.
In addition to Press TV, the broadcast of other international Iranian channels including Al-Alam, Islamic Republic of Iran News Network and Al-Kowsar have also been interrupted.
This is not the first time IRIB signals have been interrupted in recent months.
On March 10, the broadcast of IRIB international channels on the Hotbird satellite was interrupted for two hours.
On January 19, British technicians operating from Bahrain also sent jamming signals to block IRIB channels on the Hotbird satellite, including provincial channels and a number of international channels such as Press TV, Al-Alam, Al-Kowsar, Jam-e Jam and Sahar.
