PDP condemns Cop’s Killing
“Government trying to find scapegoats for its failures”
Srinagar, April 20 (VOS): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) strongly condemned the shooting incident in Srinagar that resulted the killing of ASI Sukhpal Singh. Expressing deep shock at the loss of another precious life to a senseless violence party Chief Spokesman Naeem Akhtar said such killings don’t serve any purpose except creating personal tragedies. He conveyed party’s deep feeling of grief and solidarity to the family of the deceased.
The spokesman said the party patron Mufti Mohammed Saeed and president Mehbooba Mufti were shocked to learn about the killing and have conveyed deep condolences. Party General Secretary Mohd Dilawar Mir and senior leader Syed Mohammed Altaf Bukhari have also condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with his family. The spokesman said many such incidents had taken place in srinagar even though the militant presence in the state has drastically come down. “Such attacks have been daring and carried out in broad day light in busiest areas of the city”, he said and wondered as to why none of these crimes could be solved so far.He said on the one hand the government had declared srinagar as militancy free and on the other hand such incidents were creating a scare and governments inability to solve these cases or prevent their recurrence  is leading to more uncomfortable inferences than such crimes in normal circumstances would.
Calling it a failure of policing in the state Akhtar said it is obvious that the police is unable to crack these cases because the government leaders were issuing such statements that would mislead the investigators. The police also feel it self above any accountability because their political masters are neck deep in criminal activities and scandals and are surviving in politics only because the police is shielding them. “That is why the police has not felt obliged to explain any of the shooting incidents in the city so far while their political masters are trying to find scapegoats among their rivals”.

Azam against the Continues House Arrest Geelani:

Srinagar, April 20 (VOS): Azam Inqilabi, patron Mahaz-e-Azadi, while vehemently protesting and declaiming against the continuous house arrest of the resistance veteran Syed Ali Geelani Sahab, has maintained in his statement that Hurriyat Conference, after sustained efforts put in during the past 19 years in a democratic way, did succeed in creating a congenial and conducive environment for peaceful and honorable settlement of Kashmir issue. Imprudent and self-centered rulers of Delhi, by gagging and stifling the democratic voice of dissent in Kashmir are inadvertently trying to torpedo the Indo-Pak peace process. India test-fired its Agni-5 missile on April 19. Chinese press attributed it to domineering and overbearing attitude and demeanor of India. Scientists of Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and Egypt do not feel exhilarated and thrilled when India test-fires its missiles. Instead, they become more serious in their technophile programmes to produce more sophisticated missiles and other non-conventional weapons. Why should

India squander its wealth and resources on counterproductive military presence and activism in Kashmir and Siachen? You are doing it at the cost of solace and comfort of 40 crore people living a life below the poverty line. Try to co-opt the war veteran General Ashfaq Kiyani of Pakistani for a substantive discourse aimed at the demilitarization of Siachen and Kashmir. India wants to import gas from Turkmenistan through the transit route of Afghanistan. At the same time India is prompt in clandestinely expressing solidarity with the western imperialist powers which have occupied Afghanistan and are still engaged in decimating the innocent people there through military hot pursuit. Remember that Taliban Mujahedeen, who are enjoying sway over the 90% terrain of Afghanistan, are, in fact the proud freedom zealots who are fighting against the military onslaught of the western hawks. All Asian giants should emphasize the early withdrawal of western forces from Afghanistan- the war-ravaged country of Sufi Muslims craving and yearning for peace and tranquility.

Trade ties between India and Pakistan is a welcome sign: Zaffar

Srinagar, April 20 (VOS): Zaffar Akbar Bhat has said that Kashmir was an internationally recognized disputed territory and the world community should take solid and serious steps for its amicable settlement. The Indian government is continuously engaged in creating confusion among the Kashmiri people to drift them away from the liberation movement. Zaffar Akbar Bhat while addressing at Jammia Masjid Shakirabad Gulshan Nagar in Srinagar maintained that the Kashmir dispute was tormenting the people of the region and would continue to do so unless it was resolved in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations. While the improvement of trade ties between India and Pakistan is a welcome sign, both the countries need to understand that peace and stability will continue to elude the region until the Kashmir issue is resolved, he added. He said that the world community must realize that peace and stability in the region could not be guaranteed if the peaceful liberation struggle of Kashmiri people was not respected and the Kashmir problem was not resolved in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations. He said that lakhs of Kashmiris had sacrificed their lives while many were languishing in jails to push forward the struggle for freedom.

Opening Remarks of the Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee at the
G-24 Press Conference in Washington D.C. Today

New Delhi, April 20, 2012.

The G24 Ministers met today and discussed the Global Economy,  Reform
of International Financial Institutions and Infrastructure Financing
and Sustainable Development. We had frank and fruitful discussions
amongst ourselves, including a brief interaction with the MD of the
IMF and the World Bank President. As part of the initiative to enhance
the role and effectiveness of the Group, we also had a briefing on the
G20 under the Mexican Presidency.

Our communiqué shows that despite the diversity of the Group, we can
find common ground. On the global economy, we remain concerned about
the fragility of the recovery. Recent policy actions have reduced
threats from the Euro area, but downside risks remain high, including
from high and uncertain oil prices. The subdued global growth has
adverse impact on growth in many emerging markets and developing
countries. We believe that immediate and concerted actions are needed
to restore confidence and boost growth.

We will focus on job creation and on effective and affordable social
safety nets that protect the poor and vulnerable. We call for the
timely and full delivery of the ODA commitments to LICs.

On management of capital flows, we have strong reservations on the
integrated approach proposed by the IMF staff and insist that policy
makers must have the flexibility to adopt policies that they consider
appropriate to deal with capital flows.  We also call for actions to
mitigate excess volatility in commodity prices, both for food and
energy, which is undermining growth.

On the International Financial Institutions, we stress that the
forward looking commitments on IMF quota and governance reform must be
met on a full and timely basis. We welcome ongoing efforts to ensure
that the IMF has the necessary resources to play its role, but it
should remain a quota based institution.

We are concerned that World Bank lending is projected to decline at
this crucial juncture because of constrained financial capacity. We
therefore call for new solutions to bolster  the financial capacity of
the Bank and IFC. We also urge the Bank to improve its responsiveness
through more flexible and innovative policies and instruments. We ask
the Bank to remain engaged with Middle Income Countries and to scale
up resources and technical assistance for the developmental needs of
MENA countries in transition.

We recognize for the 1st time in the history of the Bank that there
was an open process for the selection of the President and that 2
outstanding candidates from developing countries were presented. We
congratulate Dr Jim Kim on his selection and extend our support to
him.

We believe that to realize our growth potential, a substantial
increase in investment in infrastructure is required. We call on
efforts to strengthen the existing architecture of global, regional
and national institutions and to enhance  PPPs and private sector
involvement. We also look forward to the outcome of the review called
for by BRICS Leaders to explore the feasibility and viability of a new
Development Bank for mobilizing resources for infrastructure and
sustainable development projects in emerging markets and developing
countries. [PIB]

“The situation in oil markets is being kept under close review,” Reuters quoted the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, as saying on Friday.

European countries including Greece are facing difficulty finding alternative suppliers, he added.

Tehran decided to cut crude exports to certain European countries after EU foreign ministers agreed on January 23 to ban oil imports from Iran and freeze the assets of the country’s Central Bank across the EU.

Iran has already cut oil exports to France and Britain as part of its countersanctions.

Last month, crude prices reached a peak after Tehran’s decision to adopt the countersanctions, pushing gasoline prices in the US and UK to record highs.

Iran says the sanctions have not stopped it from signing new contracts with new customers.

“Iran has no problem in exporting its oil,” Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi said on Thursday.
