Cross LoC trade: Suspension
of trade deferred
Traders to holds protests
during Indo Pak talks
Srinagar, July 29(VOS): The
cross LoC traders have decided to defer the scheduled July 31 suspension of
trade indefinitely, the cross LoC traders union told VOS today.
The decision was arrived today after traders
from both sides of the LoC held talks through teleconference to deliberate upon
the future course of action to push through their long standing demands. “We
decided to postpone the suspending of the trade in view of holy month of
Ramadan”, Hilal Truki General Secretary of the Salamabad-Chakoti traders union
told VOS over phone.
Earlier traders from both sides of LoC had
decided to suspend the trade alleging that customs authorities were creating
unnecessary hurdles in the trading process.
“In spite of making the trade custom free, the
authorities have given the reigns of the trade in their hands, which is beyond
understanding”, Turki said.
Traders from both sides expressed displeasure
over non fulfillment of their long pending demands as according to them they
were not given any attention by India and Pakistan.
The traders, during the marathon
video/teleconference session decided to launch a protest simultaneously at
Srinagar, Muzafarabad, Poonch and Chakanda Bag in the first week of September
while the Foreign Minister’s of India and Pakistan would be holding parleys in
Islamabad. “We want to impress upon the authorities to remove the impediments
in the trade process and the protests will be held on September 7, when
Indo-Pak talks will be on”, Turki said.
Slamabad-Chakoti traders union also accused the
custom authorities of disregarding the standard operating procedure (SOP)
formulated by the two countries. “If the interference of custom authorities in
the trade was not ended, there are apprehensions of the trade getting
derailed”, Hilal Turki said.
He also alleged that the trade has been hijacked
by influential businessmen from Amritsar and Delhi as they are allegedly in
cahoots with the customs authorities. VOS

Visits forwards posts in
Kupwara
Srinagar, July 29(VOS): Defence
Minister AK Antony on Sunday wound up his two-day security review trip to
Kashmir with a visit to forward Army posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in
Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district.
“On the second day of his visit to Jammu and
Kashmir, Defence Minister AK Antony on Sunday visited a forward
post in the Kupwara sector, accompanied by the Chief of Army Staff
General Bikram Singh, Defence Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma, Northern Army Commander
Lieutenant General KT Parnaik and other senior military and civil officials”,
said a defense spokesperson.
Antony was
briefed about the infiltration pattern of militants in the sector and the
measures being taken by the Army to prevent such attempts, the defense
spokesperson said.
Antony spent
some time with the troops and asked about their welfare. He asked them about
the quality of rations, clothing and shoes they were getting and whether
they were satisfied with it.
The Ministry of Defence has taken several
measures in the last few years to improve the quality of supplies to the jawans
posted in remote locations, the spokesperson added.
The minister returned to New Delhi at 10:30 in
the morning. He was seen off by the Minister of State for Home Nasir Aslam Wani
at the airport.
During his two-day stay in the Valley, the
Defence Minister held a series of meetings to review the security scenario in
Kashmir.
Chairing the Unified Headquarters meeting
yesterday, he said the "visibility" of troops should be reduced as
much as possible in the state without compromising efficacy.
Antony also
asked security forces and intelligence agencies to enhance their coordination
to thwart enemy attempts to disturb peace in the border state.
The Defence Minister, who visited Jammu and
Kashmir after a gap of 18 months, also met Governor NN Vohra, Chief Minister
Omar Abdullah and senior officials of the security establishment here.
Kashmir resolution imperative for peace in sub continent
Srinagar, July 29(VOS): Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that the
solution of Kashmir issue was imperative to bring peace in the Indo-Pak
subcontinent. He, however, cleared peace would remain elusive in the region
unless India shows flexibility.
Mirwaiz, who was released on Sunday after
remaining under house detention for three days, addressed a large gathering at
Malik Sahab Safakadal. While addressing people, he said the recent visit of
Indian Defence Minister and Army chief clearly suggests that they want to strengthen
the presence of army in Kashmir. He said the visit also indicates that army is
the one who rules Jammu and Kashmir and calls the shots.
APHC Chairman said that the state government is
just been installed for running petty affairs and is helpless before army at
every level.
“Leave aside lifting of AFSPA or other black
laws, this state government is can’t even take some confidence building
measures,” Mirwaiz said.
Mirwaiz said that Hurriyat has already pointed
out that till there is complete withdrawal of troops and black laws are revoked
from Jammu and Kashmir, visit of any Indian defense Minister or army chief
would remain a failed process.
APHC Chairman said that on one hand the so
called chief Minister is talking of lifting of black laws, while on the other
hand same laws are being extended to murder Kashmiri people. He said unbridled
force is being used against common masses demanding basic amenities.
He further added that that Hurriyat leadership
is put under house detention to maintain the fake peace.
APHC chairman said that Kashmiris are under
continuous cultural onslaught. Hence, he said, it was incumbent one every
person to protect Kashmiri culture and tradition from aggression.
Yasin Malik visits
‘Bijbehara blast injured’
Srinagar, July 29(VOS): Jammu
and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik, today
visited Soura Medical Institute where several injured in Bejibihara incident
are being treated.
According to a statement issued by JKLF, Yasin
was accompanied by senior JKLF leaders Noor Mohammad Kalwal and Altaf Hussein
Khan. He visited the injured and enquired about their health and wellbeing.
The relatives of those injured told Yasin Malik
about the mysterious and deadly explosion that killed three women and injured
several others. While expressing his shock and grief over the incident Yasin
Malik told visitors “yatris and visitors are our guests and it is our religious
duty to protect and help our guests”.
Yasin said, “in this hour of grief and sorrow
they will find every Kashmiri besides them”.
Yasin said our hearts are weeping and minds
disturbed for those families who have lost their loved ones in this terrible
incident. “We are with them in this hour of grief and pain”, said Yasin while
praying for the speedy recovery of those injured expressed his best wishes for
them. The injured and their relatives informed Yasin about the gallant efforts
of Muslims who despite fasting helped them and stood by them. They also thanked
the hospital staff for their tireless hard work and care. Yasin Malik said that
our beloved prophet peace be upon him has taught us humanity, respect, love and
care for guests. We cannot and must not shun these high values of ours.
Shabir Shah, others stopped
from visiting Bandipora, arrested
Srinagar, July 29(VOS): Senior
separatist leader and President Democratic Freedom Party Shabir Ahmad Shah, was
today arrested by police along with other companions at Ajas village to prevent
them from visiting Bandipora.
Shah along with separatist leaders Nayeem Ahmad
Khan, Zafar Akbar Bhat, Mohammad Yousuf Naqash, Javed Ahmad Mir, Shabir Ahmad
Dar, Mohammad Ahsan Untoo along with many other activists were intercepted by
police at Ajas after which they were taken into custody and lodged at police
station Sumbal. The leaders were on their way to Aloosa Bandipora where they
intended to offer sympathies to the family of Hilal Ahmad Dar, allegedly killed
by army in custody.
Separatist leaders were prevented by authorities
from visiting Bandipora for last four days by keeping them under house arrest.
After the leaders were today allowed to move out
of their houses, they decided to move to Bandipora to express solidarity with
the family of the deceased Hilal Ahmad Dar.
PDP foundation day on July
30
Srinagar July 26 (VOS): Peoples Democratic Party is all set to celebrate its foundation
day on 30th July Monday, party sources told VOS.
Due to some reasons the celebration date on July
28th had been postponed and the function is now being held on
30th July 2012 at T R C Ground Srinagar, the spokesperson added.
The party spokesman has appealed the party
workers to reach the venue at 9 AM at Srinagar on the said date to participate

Conference Spokesman Tanvir Sadiq has called the immediate action of Chief
Minister Omar Abdullah where he announced 200 crore to procure extra power to
reduce the gap and mitigate the sufferings of the people as a step highly
generous and munificent.
“Omar Sahib’s announcement and immediate
implementation in providing extra power in the holy month of Ramzan shows his
magnanimity and his commitment towards the welfare of the people, even though
it had many financial implications” said Tanvir
“At a time when Aggregate Transmission and
commercial (ATC) losses are at whopping 62%, one should appreciate that even
then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as a Ramzan Gift ensures people’s comfort and
releases such a huge amount” said Tanvir “Omar Abdullah has vision, he has a
dream and the passion to pursue it, show me one such leader who has taken such
bold and people friendly decisions” he asked
“The average unit we buy and the average unit we
sell creates a huge loss to the exchequer, even then the State is the
2nd cheapest to sell power to consumers” said Tanvir “People are very
happy with the decision but it’s their duty to ensure there are no power thefts
and then see a major improvement in the whole power scenario” he added
Lashing out at PDP the NC Spokesman called the
PDP an ‘Evil force” hell bent to spread lies to take the state to ruins. He
said that these opportunistic leaders are scared of Omar Abdullah and are
unable to read the writing on the wall that they will be soon wiped out by
people politically.
“This party is a bunch of hooligans and there
desperation can be seen by the fact that they have started manhandling highly
respected Legislators now, it is shameful that they still claim to be law
makers” Tanvir remarked

away from reality and are still living in chronic denial. In a manner
in which Opposition along with those responsible for killing innocent people in
Kashmir as part of a conspiracy are spreading lies against the Omar Abdullah

tumour in her head at Shere-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science Soura here.
Her condition is stated to be critical critical.

Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani has appealed people to pray for speedy
recovery and wellbeing of Guru’s mother.
“He wanted to visit Guru’s mother at the
hospital but was prevented to go there as he has been under house arrest”,
Hurriyat (G) spokesperson Ayaz Akbar told VOS.

procession
Srinagar, July 29(VOS): Mohammad
Mustaq Assistant Director Planning posted at Chief Medical Office Kupwara died
on Saturday after sustaining injuries in a road accident.
Mushtaq, while traveling back from his office at
Kupwara to his residence at Kalmuna, lost balance on his vehicle on Kralpora
Shuloora road, after which it skidded off the road resulting in injuries to
him.
He was shifted to Kupwara hospital where from he
was referred to Srinagar but succumbed to injuries on the way.
Thousands participated in his funeral at his
ancestral village on Sunday morning. Many officers from district
administration, political circles and civil society members attended his
funeral and expressed gried over the tragic death of Mushtaq.
Pertinently Mustaq was a relative of Dy Director
State Motor Garages Malik Tahir.
Civil society group Kupwara Secretary Showkat
Masoodi and other Political Organisations expressed solidarity with the family

Identity of attackers established
Srinagar, July 29(VOS): Militants
fired upon Muhammad Rafi Malla son of Ghulam Ahmad resident of Pahalpora
Shopian when he was coming out from a nearby Masjid after Isha Prayers,
injuring him, police said in a statement. The injured was shifted to SMHS
Hospital for treatment.
“Police has registered a case in this regard.
During the investigation the identity of the militants who attacked Rafiq Malla
has been established as Inam-ul-Haq Malla alias Waseem son of Muhammad Iqbal
Malla resident of Pahalpora and Irshad Ahmad Sheikh son of Bashir Ahmad
resident of Haripora”, the statement added.

Srinagar, July 29(VOS): Two
people died and thirteen others were injured in different road accidents across
the valley.
A Tractor with out registration number rolled
down in an orchard at Kralpora, in the jurisdiction of Police Station Pattan,
Baramulla, resulting in on spot death of 14 years old Waseem Ahmad son of Abdul
Majid Khan resident of Khan Stop and injuries to the Tractor driver Ghulam
Hassan Khan son of Raj Muhammad resident of Khan Stop and Waseem Ahmad Dar son
of Abdul Hamid resident of Kralpora. Both the injured were shifted to SKIMS
Soura for treatment. The body of deceased was handed over to his next of kins
for last rites. Police has registered a case in this regard.

JK09/1906 driven by Mushtaq Ahmad Malik age 45 years son of Abdul Gani Malik
resident of Kalmoona skidded off the road at Kralpora Sholoora road, near Dak
Banglow, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Kralpora, Kupwara,
resulting in injuries to the driver of the car. The injured was shifted to
SKIMS Soura, where he succumbed to his injuries. Police has registered a case
in this regard.

Khangroo resident of Safakadal near Lattar Masjid, in the jurisdiction of

for treatment. Safakadal Police has registered a case in this regard.

hit two Motorcycles bearing registration numbers Jk01L/9718 and JK01M/8798 at
Pandach, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Soura, Srinagar,
resulting in injuries to both the motorcyclists and a pillion. All the injured
were shifted to Hospital for treatment. Police has registered a case in this
regard.

rammed in an electric pole near Kulangam, in the jurisdiction of Police Station
Handwara, resulting in injuries to 03 persons, Mohammad Abdullah Parray son of
Subhan resident of Ujjar, Sajad Ahmad Ganie son of Mohammad Munawar resident of
Gund Chogal and Gulzar Ahmad Khosa son of Habib resident of Kalaroach Kupwara.

driven by Bopinder Singh son of Gurdev Singh resident of Chogal Handawara and a
Tractor with out registration number collided at Goose Kupwara, in the
jurisdiction of Police Station Kupwara, resulting in injuries to Alto driver
and Suran Singh resident of Chogal Handawara. Both the injured were shifted to
Hospital for treatment. Police has registered a case in this regard.

2 US-led troopers killed in Western Afghanistan
At least two US-led foreign soldiers, enlisted by NATO have been killed in an attack by militants in the west of the war-torn Afghanistan.
Insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan despite the presence of about 130,000 US-led forces in the country.
The high number of military casualties in Afghanistan has intensified opposition in the United States and other NATO members against the protracted war in the country.
US assures Israel of 'contingency plans' to attack Iran if talks fail
US National Security Adviser Tom Donilon has informed Israel of Washington's ‘contingency plans’ for a possible attack on Iran, should the negotiations between Tehran and the P5+1 fail, an Israeli paper says.
The Israeli daily Haaretz reported on Sunday that US President Barack Obama's national security adviser briefed Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the plan during his visit to Tel Aviv two weeks ago.
Citing a senior American official who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the report said Donilon has assured the Israeli premier that the US “is seriously preparing for the possibility that negotiations will reach a dead end and military action will become necessary.”
Donilon also shared information on US weaponry and military capabilities for dealing with Iran's nuclear facilities.
Last week, Secretary of US Air Force Michael Donley said the force’s new bunker buster bombs, each weighing 15 tons, were ready to be used in an attack.
According to the report, these bombs are intended for fortified bunkers.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has told EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton that the ‘stalled talks proved that the time had come to move from talk to action to stop Iran.’
However, Ashton, who is scheduled to meet Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council in the coming days, said she was still hopeful the standoff could be resolved diplomatically

US incapable of carrying out a strike against Iran: Analyst

Press TV has conducted an interview with Mohammad Marandi, professor at the University of Tehran, to further discuss the issue. The following is an approximate transcript of the interview.
Press TV: I’d like to ask you your assessment of such news coming out about preparations for a military strike on Iran especially in context of the upcoming November elections in the US?
Marandi:There is nothing really new in this report. The United States has always said that all options are on the table and that it has prepared plans to strike Iran if they deem it necessary.
But I think what is important really is that the United States knows quite well that the Iranian military deterrence is very powerful and contrary to what you often see in the Western media it seems clear that the Americans do take the Iranian military threat to American forces and the Persian Gulf region very seriously.
After all, the American Navy is very vulnerable to Iran’s missile defense. Iran has naval and land based capabilities through which they could strike at these American forces very rapidly.
And of course if there is conflict, the price of oil would really go through the roof and the countries that would hurt first are Western countries and of course the United States would be blamed by the international community for aggression.
So the Americans really cannot win in any military conflict.
